One thought, you might want to consider using some 1/2 ounce glass and epoxy to "tie" the firewall/engine mount to the fuse sides to reduce vibration and insure strength. You don't have to go nuts ,a small bit will add a lot of rigidity, and dampen vibration. You are putting a lot of power into a lightweight frame, it might be prudent to insure it spreads into the framework from the mounting point. I don't think it will be a big penalty in weight, given you weight to power ratio

I don't think glass will be necessary, the whole mount is as solid as any DD I've built. All the parts fit really good and I put some goop on all the joints after it was all glued up plus the mount has a layer of CF on the top and bottom the whole thing feels really strong.

Sounds good, can't wait to hear how the plane works out for you.

I saw the carbon fiber you used on the fins do you do anything special for the mounts?

Hi Paul,
He has CF on the mount, top and bottom. I used 1/64 ply on mine but there is a big difference in my TT Pro and a Jett 60LX. I think because of the narrower width then the Dust and the sheeting it comes out really solid. I used to fiberglass my Dust but did not use any on the engine mount for this plane except a strip where the sheeting, leading edge and rib meet.

Mike,
I am thinking about using the 1/64 ply myself, my concern was with the added torque force with the rudders being an issue.

It is one project closer to the building board...
I still have to do my vectored thrust foam prototype, although it might sneak on to the bench between steps...

I would think the only thing you need to do because of rudders would be laminate or fiberglass the 1/8" balsa vertical fins.
Yea, slip it in between steps. I am ready to see an E-Demon fly.

Mike,
I will try to get it in on the bench in the near future.

I have just finished up a push pull twin that I have been working on. And the vectored thrust prototype plane has a bit of priority linked to it. But your delta looks like a fast build so it will probably be used as a filler when I am waiting on glue to dry or epoxy to harden.

Mike,
I was concerned about the torque force on the fins with rudders being and the stress of them on the fin mounts, probably too much so.

It would not hurt to fiberglass or reinforce the vertical fins and mounting area with rudders being installed but I think you will be surprised to see how solid this area is when assembled. Same with the leading edge. After the sheeting and fiberglass is installed it is solid.

Mike,

I'm trying to find the time to build the demon "which shouldn't take too long" but thought I would mention to anyone pondering building on of these. Do it!! The quality of the kit is awseome.

Thanks for the kind words. I would like to see someone besides me get one in the air and I am sure that will happen before too long with more then a dozen out there. I find it kind of strange though that, except for two going to Alberta Canada, South Dakota is the furthest west the Demon has gone.
