Interesting thread.

I personaly have NICad SCR and SCE in my TX and Rec packs. WHY? Because the voltage drop is a steep drop off point and slow dropping curve in the other. I recharge the TX far more often than the onboard packs because I generaly have the TX on more often as I fly 2 or 3 planes or cars with the same controler.

In my limited experience,
NIMH batteries have a built in "life" in which they take around 300 charges, then start to get erratic. THey need to be watched, and cycled and then re-set on occasion even though they really don't have "cell memory". I have a SANYO SCR 1800 pack C cell from the late 1980's in a trc-10 pan car, and It still is in nearly peak tip top charge and run performance times. I have a few NIMH packs that really don't cut the mustard up against it. My theory: The new materials thy are making batteries from are required to be more "Earth Friendly". Nothing "Eco-safe" is worth a darn in the long run, and I really wish the EPA would lighten up a bit on a few things like RECHARGEABLE batteries.....

When in Doubt, I go with the standby Alkaline high output 1.5 Volts in my TX if I am going to do some seriously high flying or insane stuff that would require no room for error or things like pack V drop due to servo loads and drain to cause failures.

I personlay think it sux that Manufactuers make radios and reccommend 11 + volts yet have room only for 8 cells in the TX, AND there is a charger jack on it.... As if it really would take that much more planning to add in 2 extra cells worth of power pack....

Have been using NiMH batteries for the past 5 yrs....No failures to speak of..I use a Sirius forming charger on them first, then discharge them and then fast charge them....Using 1650ma on the rec'r packs and 1650 on the transmitter packs...Rule of thumb for me is every 3 yrs., I replace my batteries,no matter what they read...So far so good...Just my 2 cents worth....
