Hey PapaJeff,

How'd you go with the 4 cell setup? If it were me i'd stick with the 13x6.5 on the 4 cell..

We went out to the feild the other day to try both the different setups and this is what we found performance wise, cant give you figures as we dont have a meter...

On the standard 3 cell thundepower extreme 11.1 220mah running a 14x7 prop we were getting 7 minute flights and it was very stable had plenty of pull out power and the batteries arent getting hot at the end of the flight. I also went down to a 13x8 prop on the 3 cell. This gave better throttle response but it would spin the prop up to full power and take forever to climb out of a hang.

We then went to 4 cell on 13x6.5 prop and it was a rocket... It was way faster. Everything seemed to happen alot quicker than before. Yes it pulls out vertically and at an insane rate i might add. But it lost its slow steady "floatiness" (scientific term i know) in harriers and stuff...Just didnt seem as steady as before...

Someone said to me once that the bigger prop you spin the more stable you will be in 3D.. becuase the smaller prop spins faster creating more gyroscopic force which gives you things like wing rock and fast torque rolls. I'd think that it would happen more on glow planes than electric but it makes you think anyways.

Personally i prefer the 3 cell. Stable predictable and tourqey. the 4 cell for me would be on a more sporty plane rather than 3D but thats just my preference.

Heres a pic of me hanging at the feild the other day! Thought you might enjoy it!

Not sure its possible..

There isnt any real fire wall to mount any engine off. You could fabricate one but the biggest engine you could probably run would be a OS 46 or something similar 2 stroke, i dont think there would be any room in the cowel for anything bigger, then you would need to find a decent place for the fuel tank to get the CG right...Would be a lot of work! VERY involved i'd imagine. Probably not worth the effort.

Besides its purpose built as an electric plane so it would way to weak to handle the weight of the engine and fuel.. Total flying weight of mine is 1.23 kilos or 2.7 pounds.

To have any chance of making it flyable with glo power you would need to keep it under 1.4 kgs or 3.3 pounds. Any heavier would require more modifcations...

Wing tube will be too weak unless you keep it under that weight so that will need changing...

Landing gear is too weak as it is standard, i'd hate to see how it would cope with the weight of a glo engine...

Some things for you to think about anyways.

Scultura44,

Ga Day, Mate! It is really nice to hear from you and I agree with you about the 3S being better for
an "Old Dog" like me. The 4S, as you said, makes the AJ a real Screamer. I am going to do some
more testing with a few different Flight Power combinations and props, but I believe that a 3S
3700 - 4000mAh with a 13 X 6.5 prop is a great set-up. Hey, a few more photos from you would
be nice!

I would think a OS-32SX would be a perfect match if going to glow. OS-46 is too heavy and way overpowered! In theory, if you strengthen the firewall (and the part of the fuselage connected to the firewall) it could work out

I once had a SIG Fazer with an OS-46FX. Was OK, but flying improved a lot when going to an OS-32SX

cheers, Volkert

Give it a try and see what you think, i still say that this plane flies best light. and going glow would not stay light. If you could do the math and keep it under 1.3kg's you should be ok. Whats the biggest prop an OS-32sx will spin? Are you wanting to do 3d?

As for PAPAJEFF, i would love to hear how the AJ goes on all the flightpower cells. Im running thunderpower 2200 extremes and have had nothing but problems with them. The 2 i purchased 5 months ago have both already swelled and been returned for warranty. They happily replaced the first, the second im still waiting on.

Are you going to be on the heavier side with wing loading and vertical pull out with the 3700-4000 mah range? I found with the 13.6 prop and a 2200 lipo it pulls out ok but not as good as with the 14x7e but in the same breath i am destroying batteries so i cant be sure!

Cant tell you what my current draw is as i have no amp meter or anything to test it with. Just sticking with the recommended setup by esprit models.

Will post up some more pics soon!

Hey boys,

heres some pics of me and my mates and our AJ extra 330s's...

As you can see my mate "GEE" in the middle has the FJ version... Im sorry to say this but i think this colour scheme is way better than the Fliton andrew jesky version!

Theres a nice low knife edge in there somewhere too... Oh and just for good measure, heres a clip of me flying the aj at a local park.

Enjoy!!!

Yeah funny i actually can help you with that one..

I just stripped all the electrics from my aj recently to do some repairs.

My assembled fuse with all hardware (torque horns, pull pull cables, landing gear and cowl but no electrics (motor esc servos receiver) weighs 850 grams exactly.

This doesnt though take into account the weight of the wheel socks, or the spinner if you plan to use them.

Scultura44,

How are you and your Mates doing with your fleet of AJ's? Do you mates think that the AJ's would
look better with a pilot? If so, do you have any ideas on a good one?
