I just realized that Hitec has some excellent metal servo horns and I just could not resist. The pull/pull rudder servo needed the double arm and the two aileron and elevator servos used the single arm. The blue anodized finish must have been made just for the AJ, right????

The placement of the battery tray sure seems to be correct as the AJ balanced just right.

It's absolutely a pleasure for me, being an "OLD DINOSAUR" Grandpa, to have the opportunity of using such excellent products for build threads and reviews. Remembering that I started flying Control Line about 50 years ago with my Dad (who will celebrate his 91st next month.....am I fortunate or what?), so I am somewhat amazed by the current products that are being made for todays RC flyers.

From Edson at Fliton;

The wait is finally over! The FG AJ Extra's are now in-stock and the pre-orders all shipped out today. You guys will be very pleased with what shows up in the mail in a few days!

I'm also happy to announce that Fliton has been working with KillerBuilt.com (site under construction) to add some more cool elements to our products. For example, the FG AJ Extra will come with our new "Elevator Stiffy's," which you will find to be a great solution to any flex between the elevator halves.

Notice the part about "Elevator Stiffy's"

"Elevator Stiffy's"..............Ohhhhhhhhh................Yeahhhhhhhhhhhhh, I like it!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for the heads-up and I'm going to get me some of them ASAP! Check the UAV thread later this evening as I took some photos today, of the new wing attachment. I think that it will be better than the Magnets.

I just received a notice that the Flight Power batteries for the AJ have been shipped. When they arrive, we can get down to the business of
which combination of battery and prop will give the AJ the best power potential. Flight Power has achieved a well deserved reputation for their
Li-Po technology and is currently the battery of choice for some of the Hobbys best known pilots. The FlightPower product line is divided into several catagories; EVO LITE, EVO 25, EVO 30, EVO F3A Competition packs. Each of these catagories fits a specific need and we will be testing
some of the EVO 25 & EVO 30 packs to determine the best power to weight ratio for this Fliton AJ Extra.

Papa:

Looking forward to your flight report. As "strange" would have it, got anxious for my AJ pre-order to arive on the boat. In the intrum, ordered a Precision Aerobatice Katana MD which arrived 2 days ago. Thought to use some of the gear sitting in drawers gathering dust. I am very impressed with the build quality of this bird, by far the best that I have had so far through the years. First obsticle I ran into, neigher my JR 35 or 46 servos would fit in the aileron cut outs. Did not want to grind and extend, so did some research and ordered 4 Fatuba units with enough power required. Mounting my AXI 2808/20 required filling in existing mount holes, making a template and redrilling the mount, now done and fits fine. Hope it has enough power to 3D this thing, is good for 56oz, airframe is around 30, so should be good. Motor pulls 30A, so found a 2-3 year old CC 35 oz controller, 3.8 X 10 prop fired it up with a 3000 mah 3c 20C battery with the wattsmeeter between. Lots of air, but it cuts out at near full throttle and 28 amps. Changed controller to a CC 60, and wow, 30 amps right on motor limit and wants to scoot. So, ordered a new controller for the AXI and battery recommended, 2500 mph 3c. This morning I hear the old brown truck running around in the area, know its distintive engine sound, sure enough here is the new AJ, latest model with all the improvements. Quality of this bird is also high, not quite up to the Katana MD, but good. AJ gets the big 30-Hacker, 55 amp controller capable of running the bec and 4 servos. Will be interesting to see what bird flys the best, great reviews on both. Had better get off the tube and going on the AJ. Weather is supposed to be bad for a few days which is ok, will be building the AJ regardless. Will be printing out your build comments and getting with it after lunch. Hope your batteries get here today, am sure you are chomping at the bit to fly. ENJOY

You better believe that I just could not help myself........and I already flew the AJ!!!!! I had two 1800mAh packs that I hooked up in parallel using the MPI #6942 battery harness. The 2P is the one on the far right and allows you to use two Li-Po packs (they must be identical, same brand, same "C" rating & same mAh rating), basically to increase current and duration. The two, 20C, 1800mAh, 3S packs in parallel gave me the equivalent of one, 20C, 3600mAh, 3S pack which had the correct weight ( @10.5oz ) for proper CG and power needed to fly the AJ. Now, let me tell you that on several, very carefull, and somewhat short flights, basically to "trim" out the plane.........I was simply amaized by how the AJ flew! No BS at all.......this AJ "flys like a butterfly----and does not sting like a bee!" It feels like a feather, yet looks like a BIG plane. Also,
what a safe and secure feeling to fly with the Horizon "SPEKTRUM" 2.4 system! I can't wait to get my hands on those Flight Power packs and
get some real flights on this Fliton AJ Extra 330S! Hey, "Jetski", you sure did a great job of designing your namesake plane! Ohhhhhhh....Yeahhhh!

Yoy Guys are killing me,, I live about as far away from Fliton as you can and still be CONUS. I sat by the front door all day and waited for Big Brown. Never showed,,, I guess I'll have to play with the 35% Yak and the 2.9 meter Comp-Arf MX2 all weekend.

Guys: Know what you mean, but sorry cant quite feel bad for taildragger when he has his Comp-Arf's to fly. All I want is two little servos from the brown truck today, not much to ask for is it? Normally Tower is 2 days max to get my stuff, today is day 4 for the servos, very unusual. Guess I will just have to go to work ernestly on the AJ, after all, thats what the real anticipation is all about. May have a aproblem with the Katanas intended controller anyway. Thanks Pappa, you got the old bean thinking, lets see, I can take 3 of my little 1320's hook up up in series and get 3960 available mah and still use the little guys in the foamys? What ya think. Obviously running two 1800 has some advantages, whats the problem with say 3? With a little planning, maby we won't have to have a whole bunch of different batteries around? Your thoughts welcome. ENJOY

OK guys, I know that you are waiting for the BROWN TRUCK, but so am I. We are all in the same boat. Yet, I could not help it and borrowed some packs from my pal and flew the AJ yesterday. Boy does that plane look good and fly good.......up there in the sky.
