I Posted this on another thread and meant to put it here.....dang it's tough getting old....

Ok, I'll tell on myself. Ol Rusty threw me the stock E-Sky tail box to try out on my bird. Like I said earlier I finally got it all together and it hovers great and all the part are in harmony. As I was putting the tail back together I notice on of the tail blades was on backwards the the trailing edge was flipped forward. DOOOOOH I've been flying this thing for at least two weeks this way and it was flying real good. Ask Betapilot, he even flew it.

By the way the tail box is ok, not great but it's more bling than zing. The screw they give you for the bellcrank pivot just threads into the bracket and you cannot tighten it without binding the bellcrank. The other thing you could do is put thead locker on it and wait for it to harden. What I did was put in a longer screw and put a nut on the top to tighten the screw. Rusty thought they were going to send him the complete tail (to include the blade grips) but they didn't. I think the tail is a week point on the bird as there are som many places it binds. When he gets the other parts in I'll try them out and then may go to his Frankestein tail upgrade.

I'll give it 2 stars **

E-Sky HH Gyro

After I got it flying with the new tail box I swapped out the rate gyro for the HH gyro. I attached it with velcro so I could change the orientation of it as I have see so many different ways people have mounted it. The first try was with the bottom of the gyro attached to the back of the two servo's, label pointing at the tail, servo plug to the left. It worked there fine and did it's thing in both HH and rate. Next I put it in the position that the rate gyro was in. The heli would just spin (yes, each time I changed positions I unplugged the batt). Next I put it on it's side, label to the right, servo connector pointed to the tail. Same thing, it would spin the heli. I put the gyro back on the servos and it works just fine.

In HH the tail is much more solid. There is still a bit of drift and I will try playing with the gain. One thing I did notice is that the tail is way more responsive than what it was with the rate gyro. It moves a lot faster than it did with the rate gyro and stops on a dime when you let off the stick.

I'll give this one 3 stars ***. For the $$ I think it's doing great for what I paid for it. It's worth the upgrade

Greg,
I also have the esky hh gyro but have not and any luck with it. Where do you plug in the single wire connector? What is it for anyway?
I have hovered the machine many times with the stock gyro so don't know if I realy need the hh.

Real109, The single plug goes in channel 5 with the orange wire up. Orange is the same as white. I understand it's so you can use the switch to switch between HH and Rate. Mine works that way. I have the servo plugged into the Gyro so the white wire is toward the center of the gyro and black is to the outside. I need to hire myself out to help these guys put out some real no kidding ENGLISH instructions.

Let us know how you get on with your HH gyro.

If the standard rate gyro is working and you're not doing 3D...why spend the money if you don't need to?

You may need the money for main blades and center axis (commonly goes out in a hit).

If you're having tail hold problems, check the belt tension and tracking. Make sure the rudder servo is functioning correctly, and the gain is set correctly (causes twitching if set too high). I too have read that HHG is much better than a standard rate gyro for AGRESSIVE manuvers....I'm not even close to that yet. Been doing back and forth high speed runs and snap 180's but the standard rate gyro is co-operating fine. I've done some agressive banks and turns in this process...no problem with the standard rate gyro. You'll need one eventually if you invert fly, do some loops and rolls etc.

Funny you should ask...I just came in from two flights (no wind). Fresh battery...I punched it and it shot straight up. The tail never offered to move much more than a few degrees to the right but I expected that and compensated. Your tail rotor might be sticky on the shaft...disconnect the pushrod from the rudder servo and operate the rudder by hand to see if it's sticking/binding at any point in the travel. I don't use the guides for the rudder push rod...just a pinch point in my opinion. You'r gyro is fine...you got setup problems.

Hey Karl - If you don't mind, I will throw my opinion in here. I fly falcons that come with really good headholds stock and I have owned a couple of 450se's that were equipped with fut 401's and I did a test recently with the telebee and esky hh's. I do not believe you will cure the torque with a headhold, they are designed to bring the tail back after hard collective during lift to the tails original position. I have not used a gyro yet that allows you to just throttle up and go, you will still have to fly the tail. Headholds are decent for hovering and invading forward flight for the first time, but the king has a pretty controllable tail and is much tamer than what an eflite or helimax with a tail motor will be. I have allowed many of my friend to fly my kings and falcons in both modes and after a couple of minutes, they all switch back to nirmal mode and just fly the tail, they all claim it to be less twitchy and I have to agree. I know everyones experience will be different and that is why I state it is my opinion. I come down to this, no one I know is doing inverted stunts with the hh on, they always turn it to normal before engaging in these stunts and my friends that can buy these from me at cost, still don't after flying with them. If you feel you need it to learn flight, then it may in fact be a good investment, but there are other areas that you could spend the money that will enhance your performance enough to where you may find you do not need it. I will preach it one more time, if the bird is set-up properly, you should have no use for it.

Rusty

A side note - Gregkabob is being very generous in his assessment of the tail upgrade, I will not order another one. I was very disappointed in the quality and kit contents, by the time you do it right, you are within 15 dollars of the real deal, the hdx upgrade. I run the hdx and will continue to run it as I believe it is truly worth the 70 bucks it cost, it is a complete kit and it is REAL quality. Using my main man Gregs system. I give it a full five stars *****, or astericks.
