Information, for you guys that like the 8g E Sky servos, I was on the manufacturer web site today and they have a message scrolling saying that production of the 8g servo has been stopped and it has been replaced with a 7.5g digital servo. I don't know how many of the 8g servos are still in hobby shops (online or LHS) but if you want some spares you might want to order them soon.

Hopefully the gears are the same then it wont really matter until a servo dies.

OK ArrowNaughtic... I stand corrected on the Hig/Low frequency break...
Maybe "computer" radios are more sensitive to frequency stability but I've heard that plain old radios can be changed and they work fine. I knew that if you went from High to Low or Low to High you have to re-tune the TX...

Initial reports are the 7.5 is a POS...I hope it isn't so. Some people think the 8G is a POS, but they're immensely better than the S-75's or HS-55's. It's kinda weird but the standard sized servos I use in my AeroStar .40 have lasted since the late 1980's, and have been crashed many times, never had to replace one of them...ever (I have both Hi-Tec and Futaba standard servos in two different planes).

Hey Guys,

I just got a new HBK2 (my first "real" Heli), and am upgrading to a brushless motor. I understand the motor does not come with a pinion gear, and the gears do not have set screws. How do I get the gear onto the shaft?

Thanks for the help and I will probably have more basic questions in the future as I'm just getting into this hobby.

DR

Don't bother removing the stock pinion, when you get your new motor get new pinions with set screws. I personally run align and have never had a problem with them, I also have been running the rhino gears and can't say they are any better than the aligns. I would still recommend using a dab of loktite even with the set screw pinions just to ensure hold. Depending on which motor you get will depend on the output shaft size, (there are two standard sizes, 2.3mm & 3.17mm) you may need to alter the way you mount the pinion on the shaft due to the size of the opening in the frame. I do not even run any 2.3mm shaft motors anymore so I have to mount the pinion either upside down or dremel out the opening ever so slightly to accommodate the larger pinion but well worth it in my opinion

On the servos, I received in my first shipment of the 7.5g stockers and have had a chance to test them for durability and performance. First thing I noticed is they definitely center better than the 8g's but are not any better from what I can tell in performance, they can post all the specs in the world about speed but these are no quicker than the 8g's, performance is almost identical to the 8g's. Having said that, tail control is slightly better and more precise and for the money I would find it tough to complain, they did perform well at the tail. I know the big question is how tough are they and I refuse to wreck the helicopter they are mounted on intentionally so you will just have to wait I do it by accident (won't be long I promise) to find out, lol. I will say this in all fairness, at this price I feel like they heartier than the eflites and cheaper than any other servo that is as good, I do not believe they went backwards but also do not feel they made any advancements. The word I got from esky was the change was made due to the fact that esky plans to upgrade their kits to a version of the art tech hh gyro as standard equipment like the art techs in the near future and they wanted these servos to accommodate the upgrades. All in all, in my opinion they are still a good buy for the money.
