GREETZ to all

I am fixing to be a HBK2 pilot. I already fly CP heli's but I am still learning and new (in flying skills, not repair LOL). A friend let me hover his King and I knew I would buy one because it was much more stable and forgiving then my first heli (22e). At any rate I am aware there is a stock belt tracking problem at the tail.....what else do I need to worry bout fixing right out of the box to just get it flying RELIABLY? This thread is long folks, just asking for a bit of a jumpstart.

My first intentions are this: Pitch stock motor and FIT a brushless outrunner elf 4200kv with elf esc, with a 9t pinion to start, shim the tail gear and get it tracking proper. Stock up on belts LOL! Do I need to make up belt guides? I want to fly it basically stock for a while, stock head parts, electronics etc. I rekon I need to get some of those "hardened" feathering shafts? Any specific parts I need to stock heavy as far as high wear or crash parts?

THX much

Tommy

Hey Tommyjoking, I just got the bare bones and an E-sky 3900Kv motor and 10t pinion. I have eleven flights on mine so far and It works great. I also have the E-sky servos. The ESC is a 30A from cnchelicopter (xmseller on the bay), and I have a Telebee gyro. I'm also using and E-Sky 3S1250 battery as well as a Zippy 3S1800. I may get some 1500's for it. I have three 450 size birds but they are too big for my yard. I'm getting tired of brushed tail motors quitting on me, so I decided to try this because the rotor span and weight isn't much more than the 22E, Blade CP, and Honey Bee CP2. So far i like it and it was easy to set up on my DX6i radio. Good luck with yours!

belt tracking problem is on the left side idler pully next the main gear belt tends to slide down off the idler. On the new King lls this has been taken care of. If not it can be shimmed with a 2mm washer between the idler and the frame (which usually binds on the bearing and prevents it from turning). Two ways to fix it one is to upgrade to the 43 tooth sprocket and belt (purchase extra long belts at 8$ each from the supplier) as it includes a extra set of bearings or you can purchase a timing belt pully EK1-0562 and use the upper bearing guides in that kit to make a shim for the idler and fasten it in with a 2x10mm allen head (trimed down) that will last forever and never pull out. Need a picture I can get one for you. Hardend feathering shafts tend to transfer damage to the head and mainshaft. Weakest link should give first not pass on damage to the harder to repair and more expensive parts. Almost anytime you have a blade strike of any significance you should check your feathering shaft when you replace the blades. Most of the time if your blades are damaged your feathering shaft is bent hardened or not.

The nose stays straight with the left drift then in hover the nose is going to the right in a slit spin.

Out of the box the only adjustment I had to make was on the pitch links to get near 0 at mid-stick. The belt came adjusted at what I consider is pretty darn tight, but I left it as is and have 11 flights so far. I'm keeping an eye on it. It hasn't come of the guide pully and I only see a tiny amount of wear that I would expect to be normal for a new belt to wear in. Whenever I have to replace it I will do the 43t pulley upgrade, though my tail is holding good with the combo I have.

I got two flanged bearings upside down and inserted a 0.5mm brass spacer above them. Belt never slipped then but still eating the belt after 15 flights. I think tail assembly should be upgraded.

Has anyone tried a G110 Gyro on he HBK II?

I'm looking to upgrade from the stock Gyro and my LHS sells the E-flite stuff. The G110 is only $5 more than a telebee so I'm thinking I might try it. Anyone else done it before?

Go read the eflite forum first, I know that eflite had a real problem with the gyro on the 400 but I think it was the 100, I know for a while they were having the local hobby shops replace them with 90's due to the amount of failures they were seeing and maybe the 110 is the corrected version but I would see what the owners have to say before I dropped the cash.

Jim,

I have the G110 coupled with a HITEC HS-65MG servo on my HBKII. It holds the tail fairly well in all aspects of flights. No problems with inverted flights as well. I don't do extreme 3D, but it'll hold the tail during flips and rolls for sure.

Thanks for the replies. I'll search some of the Blade 400 threads.

Kenn: I have HS-55 Servos on my HBK. Do you think they would be strong enough?
