Thanks to Rusty for the 288mm blade recommendation. These blades coupled w/ some heavier Venom flybar paddles really made the heli feel more stable. I removed the horz. fin as well as CF boom supports to lighten up the tail. Now my CG is finally good.

Other added parts:
3800kv w/ 9tooth & esky B/L 25A ESC
Trex Skids
CNC swash (Thanks again Rusty!)
esky HH gyro
AR6100 Rx

My King is flying better than it ever has.
No way that I would be at this point without the info & support of this forum.

Well guys, I made the big plunge on another HBKV2 from Rusty. He custom built me one with a Phoenix ESC and 3800 brushless motor. It has a carbon fiber tail boom and all of Rusty's latest mods on the belt guides. While I was at it, I bought a canopy from Rusty that is heavier, has more battery room and is nice looking. ( I think it is actually made for the Shogun.) Rusty set it all up and test flew it. When he flew it, he found a minor problem with the heli (nothing related to his upgrades) and fixed that as well! This will be a truly RTF out of the box blinged HBKV2... With luck, it will be in my hands tomorrow.. Woo Hoo!
My second brushed motor ate it when the rear bearing? (bearing or bushing--I'm not sure) on the can elongated and started allowing the shaft to move in a non-concentric fashion. The heli still flew, but had a lot less power. The moving about of the pinion also ate up my main gear. This caused me to take the plunge to upgrade to brushless on this heli as well. It wasn't all that easy getting the ESC soldered to the fittings, programmed and installed. I found, not all pinions are created alike. I tried a pinion I found at my lhs that was 10T. I guess that is where the "mod" comes in. It hastened the death of my already messed up main gear. I took the main gear off my ARF, pinion off one of my brushed motors (drilled it to 2.3mm) and finally got everything adjusted. All told, it took me about 4 days of spare time to get things planned out, accomplished and working properly. I have an ESKY 3900 brushless with a TowerPro Mag8 ESC. Talk about hitting your head against a brick wall, trying to figure out how to program the ESC without instructions. Instructions on the net for the Mag8 ESC were all different in some way. I still don't think I have the cutoff voltage right. I think it is flying much too long and my Dynam 1250 ( which fits perfectly by the way) is getting warm where it never got warm before. It has plenty of power and is still nice and quiet....

simon1975: I ordered the paddles from Hobby Lobby, they are for a Falcon 3D (part# ATS6010) not a venom heli as I originally thought.
The 288mm main blades are longer than stock. The outside has a CF look, but I think they are made of plastic. I got them from Rusty (betapilot).

Trust me, if this was a blade cp, you would have dumped more money for less of a helicopter. I know someone who dumped over $500 in blade cp pro and can't hover and manuver it decently without crashing almost everytime.

.

I wished I could get my HBKII off the ground and into a hover. It's my very first time at this and it's the hardest thing I've ever tried to do.

I watch these YouTube videos and read all of these posts and everyone makes it sound like it's a cake walk. I'm usually pretty good at picking stuff up like this, but for the life of me I just can't fly this thing!

Cheers,
Old Oiler

Sorry, Oiler, if it sounds that way-- no one here (so far as I know) just picked up the heli and flew it. We've all been there, and yes, it is very difficult to get started. That's one of the reasons it's so addictive, and people wind up with lots of helis and gear-- because it's difficult, each new ability or skill is incredibly satisfying. People looking on may never understand how proud you feel the first time you can lift it off the ground into a stable hover-- but anyone who flies helis will know exactly how you feel.

Keep at it, and if you have a particular problem you'll probably find an answer in this forum, or check the ESky King V2 thread on RC Groups-- there's a very active community there, too.

Troubleshooting HBK2 electronic problem.

1st flight - Hovering was silky smooth.
2nd flight (next day) - The heli was wondering around and the tail was not holding well.
3rd flight (3rd day) - Power on the Tx with throttle all the way down. Plugged the LiPo into the heli and it went crazy. The motor spun up and the servos were twitching like mad. I managed to unplug the bird before damage (got some minor cuts).

Troubleshooting:
The motor connection was disconnected for troubleshooting from this point on.
Plugged in the LiPo with Tx OFF and nothing happen. As soon as I turned on the Tx the heli went mad. Turned off the Tx and the heli stopped.
Switched out the stock speed controller with an ESC but it was not the cause. Servos still twitching.
Disconnected all the plugs to the Rx except power. Plugged in the servos and gyro one at a time but still twitching. So it did not seem like any particular servo was the cause.

My conclusion was that either the Tx or the Rx went bad.
I thought the Tx was the most likely cause.

What is your take?

Agreed...TX, but try pulling the TX crystal and plugging it back in see it that cures it. If not...JUNK TX.

Agreed, that sounds like no Tx signal. I made the mistake of turning on my Blade CP transmitter instead thinking it was the ESky and plugged in the LiPo. Its fun trying to get the LiPo unplugged once it starts to jitter and the motor powers up. Looks like the heli is having a seizure!

It sounds like the transmitter to me. What is your power level on the transmitter?

Oops! Meant to post this in the "Newer version of HBK" forum. I think this forum is more for tunning.
