Well, partly correct. My research indicates that B-25Bs were delivered both ways: some had the muliple short stacks, others didn't. The Doolittle Raiders did not have those stacks, and have what appears to me to be speacial, long stacks (one each side) which may have been custom for night raids (which was the original plan). After the raid, the USAAF repainted a number of B-25Bs to duplicate the Raiders for promotional purposes. THESE ones had the short stacks.

Totally correct: leave the side guns, as well as the aft fuslage windows, and the tail gunner greenhouse OFF for a B-25B. And move the top turrent aft, behind the wings

Which pilot busts are you using? I am considering the H9 1/10 scale WW II busts.

Used H9 1/10 scale scale pilot busts..cut them down to size and painted them...They do look nice....

Main retracts arrived today, along with 1 RoboStrut.
Maybe there's something to be said for buying the retract kit made for this plane.

First off: those RoboStruts sure are a tight fit (even with paint sanded off) in the RoboStrut ready retracts. I'll have to cut them to proper length then force them in somehow.

Second: I ordered the wrong mains. The correct ones would be the 530 series, which are also known as reverse (so called because the cylinder is on the opposite side as the retracted strut). In other words: the cylinders are at the front part of the retracts, NOT the rear. The ones I have can be made to fit using 1 of 2 methods:
1) slight modification to the retract bays, involving removing some plywood. A spruce brace can be added later.
2) reversing the truinions on the retracts, alsth this may be more work than 1)

Either way, my advice is get the correct ones: the 530 series. They cost about $7 more a set, but will save building time.

Ordered 3 H9 1/10 scale WW II US pilot busts today, MAN are THEY EXPENSIVE! $9.50 EACH. Thats just shy of $30 for 3! Williams Brothers busts are about 1/3 the cost, but they do not make 1/10 scale

Yeah. That's why I ordered to ones made for the plane. Of course they're more expensive, but they're the ones shown in the manual, they'll fit (hopefully! LOL) and the reduced hassle factor's worth the extra cost to me....

New cowls arrived yesterday. I was pleasantly surprised to find out the dummy radials are included with the new cowls: I thought thatI would have to purchase them seperately. Thus, the cost of (painted) cowls WITH dummy radials is only $15 each.

I ordered them because I sold my Evo 36s, and included the cowls with the engines since they were already cutout for the Evos. I intend to install Saitos in mine, and therefor will have to cutout differnt holes.

Horizon has posted a NEW/ DIFFERENT picture of the retracts. The new picture clearly shows that the cylinders on the mains are ahead of the trunions (not behind, like the 550s that I purchased), which verifies thet the 530 series are the correct ones.
The new picture also shows the correct nose gear RoboStrut, but it is shown mounted 180 deg off the correct position (scissors should be on the rear side of the strut, not the front , and strut offset is to the right side).

I picked up my retracts, engines, some of theservos, extensions etc today. So about all I need now is the airplane!
The retracts are over in my shop right now, but if anyone's interested, I'll be glad to take some pics of them and post on here.

Hi Jim-
I received my graphics yesterday from Bill Fulmer and they look great...thanks for the lead on those. I don't know if your cowls are like mine but only one screw was actually in contact with any wood so I am epoxying wood blocks inside the nacelles. Are you planing to recover your plane or dull the finish? If so what are your plans?

Jock my father was an USAAF test pilot he flew anything with wings and told me the b-c models had what are called long stacks and the exhaust feathered into one pipe out each side of the cowl. the J model had the short stack and an outlet for each cylinder that is why you see all the blisters on the cowl. Each one for one stack. The J was loud due to the short stacks the B C and MOST D models were a lot quieter. Now the b had a nav window on each side side of the fuse behind the pilot and no waist guns.
Field mods were done to strengthen the aircraft around the bomb bay abd if they added side packs the muzzle blast would damage the fuse, so a plate was added. Some c models had the top turret forward, they got rid of the lower turret because it was ran thru an optical sight and very hard to use. The J model didnt have one. My dad flew all Bombers and the corsair, Jug, p-51

His favorite bomber was the 25 and fighter was the 47

I forgot...Century Jet just came out with 1/9 or 1/10 WW II bomber busts with the brimmed hats instead of helmets. The ones they painted for me have oxygen masks with hose and bag attached. They are the best looking bomber pilots I've seen.

Thanks. Does this thing take just 2 -- pilot and copilot -- or do we need 4 -- pilot, copilot, nose gunner/bombadier and tail gunner?

So many questions, I'll start with the cowls:

Yes: my origiinal cowls were screwed in BARELY making contact with the nacelles, so I DO plan on adding material (to the nacelles) before mounting the new ones.

Crew: I already have a full body 1/10 'pilot' scale whichI plan to use as a bombadier. The 3 H9 1/10scale bust(s) that I purchased will be used for pilot, co-pilot, and top turrent gunner. No tail gunner needed.

Tim, my Squadron/Signal booklet indicates that like I stated earlier: the short stacks were on some 'B' models. Regardless: I'll leave them on mine (even tho the Doolittle Raiders obviously did NOT have the short stacks). According to a report by Jimmy Doolittle: the lower (retactable) turrent was removed from the Doolittle Raider aircraft to save weight, since a 2000 lb bombload was desired coupled with a very long range (maximum fuel capacity).

As for flat finish: I was alarmed to discover that NONE of the major brands (Top Flite, CoveRite, UltraCote) offer flat paints in olive drab or Dove Gray. That said, I am now using 600grit wet/dry to dull the fininsh on my nacelles and cowls. I plan to re-cover everything else with CoveRite FLAT olive drab and dove gray covering.

My graphics from Bill Fulmer arrived with AMAZING SPEED, and I am once more VERY IMPRESSED with his work.
