No need to go to United hobby, check out aero-nuts.com I have my B-25 ordered at LHS. I have settled on the Varioprop scale adjustible pitch 3 blade 13-14" dia. I'm trying to figure out a setup that will swing this prop and give good airspeed. I have a bunch of 5 cell packs but it looks like i will have to configure a larger motor, lower kv and more volts to at least a 6 cell for each engine. Google varioprop and check out there stuff. The thing is you can tune your system for the amp draw you want using the variable pitch feature, question is do you have the performance you want at that point. I wish there was a motor calc for 3 blades because this guessing stuff when making your purchases could be expensive. Doug

United Hobbies ???????????? motors for $40 , ?batteries for $65, are we talking about the same plane --if so please share details ????

yes LDM, motors for $40-50 or so as well as batteries cheap(but I wont go with cheap batteries). ESC's for $40 can be fou8nd at lightflightrc.com. I have 4 of the 60 amp ones($23 ea) and they work great. There is no bec on them, so you use a normal rx battery, but for 11 servos, you'd do that anyways.

So,
$399 for the H9 B-25
$100 for rx
$100 for two motors(united hobbies)
$80 for two esc's(80 amp from lightflightrc)
$300 for retracts(varies depending on what size/brand/oleos etc)
$400 for batteries if you se 4s Thunder Power 4200x2
Servos x 11 @ $10(ST47's) each = $110. Some ppl will use digital in some areas or higher eng servos so this cost is relative to the builder.

Anyhow....total cost(with misc items like extensions)

$1400

Even with half the cost for cheap batteries, the plane will still run over $1000 to get flight ready, but would be dramatically more if name brand motors and speed controllers were used.
2 x 80 amp ESC from Castle would cost over $140 ea
2 x Power 60's would be over $100 ea.

Most that will buy this ARF will already have most, if not all of the electronics, especially if you're into e-power. So you can bring down the cost somewhat. Speaking for me, all I would need is the motors and one ESC. The biggest cost for me would be the retracts (outside of the model itself), if I went that route. In my eyes, not a good arguement to justify the cost. Just my .02.

Here's the exact locations of the parts I found at United Hobbies...
Motors, $42.33, https://www.unitedhobbies.com/UNITEDHOBBIES/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=4907[link]
ESC, $39.95, https://www.unitedhobbies.com/UNITEDHOBBIES/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=4315[link]
Battery, $62.30, https://www.unitedhobbies.com/UNITEDHOBBIES/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=4131[link]
Retracts, $129.15, https://www.unitedhobbies.com/UNITEDHOBBIES/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=5324[link]
With the exception of the retracts, which I don't know the exact size but UH does answer emails, I think this ought to work for everyone. It all comes with 12 month warranty. It all makes sense to me.

Links are great Thanks, but, those retracts will not support a 13 pound plane.
The batteries you linked to are also not useful(unless you put a few in series). They are 3 cell(11.1v) and this plane will require 4s minimum to fly

Read a thread on RCG, about UH sending different parts (lower quality) than actually ordered sometimes. Also quite a bit of customer service issues.

Oh yeah, 4S, one of these days I'll pay attention to detail...and maybe read the instructions. Here's the 4S packs
3200mAh, $65.50, https://www.unitedhobbies.com/UNITEDHOBBIES/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=4132[link]
4100mAh, $76.60, https://www.unitedhobbies.com/UNITEDHOBBIES/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=4129[link]

About this, I've put in 3 orders to UH and they've all been spot on. And just in case anyone is wondering, no, I do not work for UH or any of their product companies. I've just got three kids and couldn't afford the hobby at the LHS.

Its sounds like a good deal and who would not want to pay $76 for batteries vs $200 but you have to wonder what your getting for the differnace ?? I am just asking , do you wonder why there is such a savings vs brand name like Thunder Power packs ??

I found enough info here to satisfy my curiosity: http://www.rcgroups.com/united-hobbies-441/

Well, I guess I've just been incredibly lucky in my dealings with UH. All of my stuff works. Actually, the only company I've had a problem with is Hobby Lobby....They're supposed to be fantastic.

This is the risk of going with cheap batteries. Long life is probably not to be expected. At least with TP packs, if somethign goes wrong, you can send the batteries in for repair or replacement and sometimes they'll offer you 50% discount on new batteries even when they can tell the damage was your fault(such as a crash and the packs are crumpled). That is why i stick with TP.

BTW....I have never had any problems with hobby-lobby

I saw the new B25 from Hanger 9, I am intersted in getting a B25, and have also looked at the one from Nitro planes. Does anyone have a reccomendation? I know the Nitro plane is a smaller (but it also costs less). They do have one in silver which looks good. I just was wondering if there where any other suppliers out there that made one, and what you all thought of the Nitro one verses the Hanger 9 plane?
Thanks,
Jeff

Personally, I think the Nitroplanes B-25 is a joke. unless you want to recover the entire plane, dont bother. The gun turrets are basically crap and the greenhouse area looks pathetic.
You'd be better of building an FSK B-25(flying styro) for the same price.
In relevance to cars:
nitroplanes would be the Yugo or Pinto of B-25's
FSK would be like a V6 Camaro only due to size relative to the others...for scale looks...its pretty good.
H9 would be like a Camaro SS
TF would be like a Corvette
KMP would be like a Corvette Z06 ( or SS)
There are a few other arf's but they look really really bad.

Kits of course would be in the luxury class of car relative to the others, but, a lot more money, time, and well, lots of building and fabricating.
