treasure -> RE: New Hangar 9 B-25 (8/30/2007 2:53:13 PM)

I was wondering reading these posts.
It seems to me as if the recommended .36 glow engines would be marginal at very best on power.
I don't think you should put a .36 engine on an 8 lb plane so why would you put two on a 16 lb plane.
Does any one have an opinion?
I have a H9 b-25 ordered and am trying to figure out the power situation.
It just seems to me the recommended power is very low.
Bill

shanksow -> RE: New Hangar 9 B-25 (8/30/2007 8:36:17 PM)

I got a pair of .40s waiting for a airplane to be stuck on. I would go with .40s or even .50 2 strokes.

echavi9325 -> RE: New Hangar 9 B-25 (8/31/2007 2:47:12 AM)

I have looked at both the hanger9 video and the top flight video .The field is the same on both videos.INTRESTING[sm=50_50.gif]

wildswan -> RE: New Hangar 9 B-25 (8/31/2007 11:18:17 AM)

Anyone got one of these yet?

I was told mine would be in end of August at my local model shop here in the UK.

Jason

jnickles -> RE: New Hangar 9 B-25 (8/31/2007 5:59:52 PM)

I haven't orderd one yet, but am getting ready to. I'm trying to figure out which one to get. It's intersting that someone wrote that the video is the same for the Hanger 9 and TF. Is it the same plane?

Flanker -> RE: New Hangar 9 B-25 (8/31/2007 8:23:11 PM)

Guys: Hobbico (Top Flite) and Horizon (Hangar 9) are both in Champaign, Illinois, and both regularly do test flying and filming at the same r/c field.

Regarding twin .36s: it may sound like insufficient power, but it's not. First, these .36s are pretty powerful little engines. I understand they're about as strong as a regular .40 or .45. Second, this is the magic of twins. From a design concept standpoint, when you go from a single-engine aircraft to a twin, you're doubling the power but only increasing the wetted area by 50% or so. The result is that the twin can be more efficient than the single.

Thanks for the info. Your plane looks good. I was looking for something a little bigger. I may wait on that one from KMP, if you think it is fairly easy build with electrics, otherwise I will do the Hanger 9 = I wish the had one in silver though. What does your B25 weigh, and what motors are you running - just curious about your watts/per pound?

My FSK weighs 45oz with 2 x 3s 2100's using park 450's for motors on MAS 9x7x3 props. The total watt output is 225-240 depending on battery voltage

magnum500 -> RE: New Hangar 9 B-25 (9/2/2007 9:57:04 PM)

would saito`s 90 size radial be too much power ???

No....any multi cyl motor for glow will not put out as much horsepower as the same size single. As an example.....the saito 90TS is their twin in this size and it puts out 1.2HP while the saito .91 single puts out 1.6HP
This B-25 will easily be flown by saito 72's, but .82 would be better. Figure the horspower for the radials being in between the .72 and .82 so roughly 1.35 HP per motor. Lot of money to spend on motors for this plane though at 699 each.

dbateman -> RE: New Hangar 9 B-25 (9/7/2007 3:22:05 AM)

While waiting for my B-25 to arrive i have been assembling the power package. I have 2 Extreme flight torque revolution 4014-T570
motors coming from Atlanta hobby, and just picked up 2 Castle 80 amp esc's in rc groups classified. These motors are set up for 5 cell operation and appear to be an excellent match for the B-25. I'll be using either my T/P 5000 Extremes of the flightpower 3700 5s packs. I hope there will be retracts available some time this year but that could be a stretch since they have to be designed for the plane on a custom basis. Looks like October for first deliveries if all goes well. Who else has made the plunge on a first twin warbird not to mention electric?.... Doug

shanksow -> RE: New Hangar 9 B-25 (9/7/2007 5:08:05 AM)

retracts I'm told are to be in the $250.00 range. a few months after the b-25 comes out

LDM -> RE: New Hangar 9 B-25 (9/7/2007 11:01:12 AM)

Doug , nice combo , sounds better then the H9 suggestions

minlwintun -> RE: New Hangar 9 B-25 (9/10/2007 5:16:29 PM)

Hey Future B-25 Pilots.
Judging by the Instruction manual on Horizon Hobby, The decal stickers are already stuck on the ARF. I would prefer to add my own Nose Art Vargas girl to the bomber.

Any good idea about how to cleanly remove Hangar9's nose art detail so I can add my own and rename her as well?

There are some great Vargas inspired girl art work from the company website for the recent PC and Xbox360 game Battlestations Midway btw.

Thanks,
-Min

I strip my H9 P-51s down to the wood and recovered them myself. Check out my avatar to see what I did with my first H9 P-51 Mustang. I too would like any suggestions on this matter. I sure do like the looks of the H9 Hellcat, but I want to remove that number 13 and put something else in its place. Other than getting a heat gun and carefully work on the item in question (i.e. number or noseart, etc.), and then carefully peel it back, I personally do not know of any other option.

Hellcat716 -> RE: New Hangar 9 B-25 (9/15/2007 3:52:03 AM)

After several weeks of contemplating over which B-25 to purchase, I decided today and ordered the Hangar 9 along with two YS 63-S engines. I will be using Graupner 11X7 three blade props with Tru-Turn prop hub's.I will also be using the robart retracts along with the scale robart wheels. After purchasing all the necessary servo's,extensions,switches and batteries I will have right around $1700.00 invested in this model. I have had most of the Hangar 9 warbirds and have been extremly happy with their product and all have flown so well that I decided that this B-25 was the best for me. I know it is not as scale as the Top-Flite, but is a couple hundred dollars cheaper and eight inches smaller and will fit in my vehicle with no problem. The Top-Flite fuselage is about seventy two inches long and that would be a problem for me.

wildswan -> RE: New Hangar 9 B-25 (10/1/2007 10:24:32 PM)

Told today there's a delay and the B-25 will be here end of November in UK. I presume earlier in the US.

Thinking of spending my money on an ASM P-61 Black Widow for now, will go for the B-25 after it's out and it get's established.

I've been waiting for this now since end of August.

Wouldnt it be easier and more scale to get a KMP B-25? Slightly larger, more scale, and can use the same motors or larger if you want. Some palces in UK and Europe still have them available. KMP will be re-releasing it end of year or early 2008 as fully composite comapred to fiberglass fuse and built up wings.

wildswan -> RE: New Hangar 9 B-25 (10/1/2007 11:30:31 PM)

Any idea what their website is with the details on the KMP version?

Cheers.

well, I know they are in business....and was at their site a few days ago. For some reason, the site is down at the moment, but here's their website address:
http://www.ytinternational.co.uk/index.htm

YT and KMP offer the same ESM planes.

Here is general info about it:

Here is a review of it:

bbrundle -> RE: New Hangar 9 B-25 (10/6/2007 1:41:58 AM)

Be sure and check your local Hobby shop as we began to ship the B-25 out to our dealers today. We offer two versions of Robart retracts for the B-25 One with an air install kit and one without the air kit. These kits are exclusive to Hangar 9 and both are in our warehouse awaiting a label sticker and they should ship out towards the end of next week. The part numbers and prices are listed below.

Also I wanted to mention that the Evolution 36NT engines that we are recomending and flying this model on have quite a bit more power than needed to fly the Hangar 9 B-25 as can be seen on the video posted on our web-site. Larger engines will just add additional weight to the model and are really not needed.

HANB25
Retracts W/7/16"Struts & air install kit.
369.99

HANB25S
Retracts W/7/16"Struts only
319.99

John Redman -> RE: New Hangar 9 B-25 (10/6/2007 2:09:47 AM)

As Bill stated above the .36's are more than enough power for the model. If you want ridiculous power I am guessing something larger would do. I flew the B-25 a number of times at DOGS with the .36's and they provided more than enough power.

Overall it is a great combo with the Robart retracts and .36's. I can't wait to get mine in the air!!!! But of course it will tout E-flite Power 46's in it.[8D]

LDM -> RE: New Hangar 9 B-25 (10/6/2007 4:50:45 AM)

I thinking of getting this plane as my first twin -eflight .The H9 warbirds have also been very good to me so and this plane looks like a great canvas to add some light detail and personal touches

Bill is that price $369 --with retract or just the air kit ?

kahloq -> RE: New Hangar 9 B-25 (10/6/2007 5:42:39 AM)

.36's may have more then enough power, but, theya re 2 s-trokes and the sound is well, not good.
Two 4-strokes sound 100% better, so in this plane....two saito 72's :)

LDM -> RE: New Hangar 9 B-25 (10/6/2007 2:22:18 PM)

if the two strokes suggested are 36 wouldnt that equate to 4 -strokes at 52???

bbrundle -> RE: New Hangar 9 B-25 (10/6/2007 7:26:49 PM)

Yes for 369.99 you get everything you need to install the retracts and that does include the retract units with Robo struts.
