Nope: a right hand RoboStrut is a right hand RoboStrut, and a left hand one is a left hand one. Only way to get the wheel on the correct side would be to have the link/ scissors on the wrong side. That should be trailing/ on the back side.

Another reason for me to just purchase a set of Robart retracts and RoboStruts, NOT specicallyfor one of these B-25s. And like Isaid earlier: I can get them cheaper than the Horizon price of $320 (without air kit).

The use of CapsLock is not only considered to be a form of shouting, and rude by some: it also makes it more difficult to read. Please calm down and turn off the CapsLock.

scrambow -> RE: New Hangar 9 B-25 (10/27/2007 3:16:03 AM)

Sorry to hear about the color mis-match. I just did the initial inspection (inside under house lights) of one I am assembling. I hope I don't have the same color thing. I will take a look at them together outside tomorrow in the daylight.
Here's what I have right now: The engines came mounted with this one as well. Time saver some what. Both wings have broken sheeting and holes in the covering on the bottom just outboard of the aileron mount plates. The right wing leading edge is pretty beat up as well.
The kit came with two left vertical stabs and rudders, one of which has a hole in the rudder covering. The lower fuselage cover is too short by about an 1/8 of an inch length-wise. The nose section glass is cracked at one of the 90 deg corners. Other than this all looks well! LOL
Going to inform my LHS dealer and get some new parts coming. I plan on installing the spring down/air up Robart 737RS 90 deg main/105 deg nose set. The nose rails in the fuselage are wide enough; however, the main mount rails need some modifying in the nacelles.
I plan on removing the inboard support bulkhead and retract mount rail, moving it inboard 1/8 inch. The 730 series rails are 2 inches wide. This shouldn't be too difficult what with the way the Chinese use their glue.

Corsair Jock:

In regards to decals for a Doolittle Raider, had mine doing by Callie-graphics.. ( KMP B-25) A very nice job she did for me...I just send to her the sheet of decals and she did them all,including the Doolittle Raider " The Ruptured Duck", design..Very reasonable on price...Picture of the plane is on her web site..Am sure she has them on file and why not ask her about them...maybe she can reduce them to fit your B-25...Give her a shout.

good luck

LDM -> RE: New Hangar 9 B-25 (10/27/2007 9:47:08 AM)

anyone doing a build thread with pictures ???[:D]

John Redman -> RE: New Hangar 9 B-25 (10/27/2007 1:04:49 PM)

This is really odd to hear about the color mis-match. We never saw this on any of our prototypes. I will say the color mismatch on the Top Flite is just as you describe though.Not saying anything bad here, just what I have observed when I was flying with Greg Hahn at the DOGS show.

Can you post a picture of the mismatch so we can see? I would be interested to see how bad it is. ANyone else have a problem here? If so a few pictures and we will work the issue.

LDM -> RE: New Hangar 9 B-25 (10/27/2007 1:23:47 PM)

There always spay paint [:D], weathering and all the fun things that make it my own !!!![;)]
Does Horizon sell the paint to match the covering ???

John Redman -> RE: New Hangar 9 B-25 (10/27/2007 2:45:12 PM)

Unfortunately we do not. There is no paint available from Horizon Hobby in a spray can that matches Ultracote.

Tony Stilman at Radio South will custom mix PPG paints for you to match I do believe.

wildswan -> RE: New Hangar 9 B-25 (10/27/2007 4:28:59 PM)

John,

Do you know when the UK will receive it's first B-25's?

Jason

bbrundle -> RE: New Hangar 9 B-25 (10/27/2007 5:37:02 PM)

The first shipmewnt of B-25's to the UK will be in December.

JS615 -> RE: New Hangar 9 B-25 (10/29/2007 3:47:03 AM)

Well i took my b25 to the field yesterday and showed all the pilots there and they all noticed the differance in color, one of the other members brought one of his wings and a engine necelles and it was the same way..
At noon yesterday under direct sunlight you could see the differance, but most of the guys there said they thought it was ok, and theres probly nothing anyone could do about it!
and that the color was as close as its going to be,,,,,, i exspected the colors to be exact but i guess i will have to live with it!!!!!!!!

I did get to maiden it though,, i flew it 4 times, I can say that it flew like a charm, very easy plane to fly and the evo 36 engines are plenty of power,,,,, but after carefull inspection today as i cleaned up my b25 from the flying yesterday, i noticed stress cracks in the fiberglass necelles, on the bottom right behind the firewall, and at the back on top
right behind where the necelle bolts to the wing,, dont know whats going on but i hope it does not get any worse,,,,, there is very little vibration that i could feel on the plane, and the props are balenced perfectly,,, i guess time will tell......?

CorsairJock -> RE: New Hangar 9 B-25 (10/29/2007 3:51:27 AM)

Very rarely do colors of covering and paint have an exact match. As for the cracks: please keep us posted.

JS615 -> RE: New Hangar 9 B-25 (10/29/2007 3:58:50 AM)

Yes i will keep everone informed, i was pretty shocked when i saw it,,,, the crack is where the first former is just behind the fiberglass firewall,,, i will say that its not a bad idea to reinforce every where inside the engine necelles!

pettit -> RE: New Hangar 9 B-25 (10/29/2007 2:32:38 PM)

We flew my Hangar 9 B-25 several times yesterday in a 10-20 MPH breeze that was thankfully right down the runway. The Evolution 36's did great but one of then was a little balky on the ground and stopped twice while taxiing. I'll look into that problem tonight.

Plenty of power. I did not loop or roll it because I wanted to make sure the engines continued to make noise. An low aileron rates, the plane will bank easily, so rolls will be no problem.

BTW, I got carried away when installing the gun barrels. I call them "Quad 50's", like we used on the back of our duece and a half while I was "A participant in the South East Asia War Games".

Here's some photos:

I just won my H9 B25 yesterday at our warbirds fun fly...I was wondering if you can share the parts numbers for the robart retracts and struts you have chosen for your plane?
Thanks,
Tim

I placed 2 seperate orders to Tower Hobbies, each totaling just over $150 each. BUT, because I am a Tower Club member, I was able to get $25 off each of the 2 orders, plus free shipping. Total cost to me, with a 1 oz bottle of CA thrown in: about $267.

Order #1:

Estimated Arrival Date: Between 10/31/07 - 11/02/07
ROBQ0555 Robart 550RS 90 Degree Main Gear RoboStrut Ready In stock, shipping 1 $117.99
ROBQ1900 Robart 660 Straight RoboStrut 7/16" In stock, shipping 1 $39.99

Order #2:

Estimated Arrival Date: Between 10/31/07 - 11/02/07

Standard Shipping: Waived
Total Current Charges: $ 133.96

Shipping charge reflects a discount of $8.99; one of the many benefits of being a member of the Tower Hobbies #1 Super Saver Club.

NOTE: there is 1 item which I my regret later: I ordered a 3/8" dia Robostrut for the nose gear, rather than a 7/16" dia RoboStrut. This saved about $7, but the reason I did it is for better scale looks. I just hope it holds up.

It appears from the pictures at Tower that a LEFT hand offset RoboStrut is the correct one. I will find out when it arrives. If it is wrong, I'll return it and get the correct one. I also want the nose gear to be able to mount a 3" wheel, which is about the correct scale size.

Bottom line: if you are a Tower member, you can get a set of Robart retracts and RoboStruts that is probably identical to the ones Horizon sell, for about $270 shipped. And if you order today, it would probably arrive by this coming weekend.

tevans55 -> RE: New Hangar 9 B-25 (10/30/2007 12:44:46 AM)

CorsairJock-
Thanks for the information on your order. After I sent you my question I went over to Century Jet as they are several miles from my home and they are going to custom make a set for the H9 B25. I took my fuse and engine nacelle and we discussed sizes and lengths for about an hour. I am going with a 3.5" main and a 2.75" nose wheel. I agree with you that 3 and 4" is probably very close to scale and I allowed room for the increase based on your measurements. They showed me an improvement they have made to the brass sleave that is attached to the rod inside the oleo. They increased the size of the sleave to 1/2". I leaned on it against a bench with my full wieght at a 45 degree angle and it moved as smooth as when I pushed it straight up and down in my hand. This looks like it is going to be a really beefy setup and I am anxious to see them on Friday. The price was right also!

This was the first H9 B25 that CJ had gotten their hands on...I'll let you know what I find out when I get them. Looking forward to conversing as we build our bombers. I'm planning on a couple of OS 2 strokes...anybody need a couple of Evo's? What info did you need to provide to Bob F? for your Doolittle graphics? I am interested in possibly making Doolittle's plane. Would I just need the same grfx as you with Doolittles tail number?
Thanks,
Tim

I e-mailed a scan to Bill that made from a set of 1/48 scale decals. The decal sheet includes the numbers of all 16 Doolittle Raiders, as well as the nose art of "Ruptured Duck" and a few others.
Bill probably still has the scan, so just tell him what tail numbers that you need and he can probably make a set for you. The price is so reasonable that I am buying 2, just in case part of my Raider becomes damaged and I have to replace it.

Just tell Bill that you want the same size as he sent to me (Jim Jager, AKA CorsairJock), and tell him which numbers that you want.

tevans55 -> RE: New Hangar 9 B-25 (10/30/2007 2:12:34 AM)

CorsairJock-
Thank you so much for the info...this will make a nice conversion.
Tim

I just realized I don't have any info on Bill Fulmer. Do you have a phone number or email address?
Thanks,
Tim

kahloq -> RE: New Hangar 9 B-25 (10/30/2007 5:21:47 AM)

For the color mis-match, you could take one of the parts to Home Depot and they can easily color match it for you....then paint the parts of the plane that dont match with that color. Easiest would probably paint the plastic/fiberglass parts to match the monokote....so take in a rudder or a wing section for the color match.
I used a part of a wing on a KMP ME-109 to get a match and Home Depot got it perfect the first time. If, for some reason, then color match is not right, they will redo it up to 3 times while you are there and send you to the checkout with the the correct match.

timothy thompson -> RE: New Hangar 9 B-25 (10/30/2007 6:05:20 AM)

remeber for a b version the exhaust stacks on the cowl are removed . Only two long stacks on each side of nacelle. Dont put the gun packs on the sides

Jimmy Bananas -> RE: New Hangar 9 B-25 (10/30/2007 10:05:16 AM)

Corsair Jock:

I got the same plastic kit for reference in regards to a Doolittle raider...I modeled after Plane #7, #02261, "The Ruptured Duck", pilot was Lt. Ted W Lawson..He took off without putting his flaps down...And made it off the deck of the carrier...As mention before on here, I got my decals made by Callie..There is a picture of it on her web site.....

Don't know if this is true or not,but Thru my LHS,I heard that the next batch of H9 B-25's,will not included the motors...The kit with motors, was a one shot deal...Also the kit will be the same price as with the motors..am not interested in buying the H9 B-25 ( already have a KMP B-25), but I hope someone here checks on the info I just wrote down...Good luck and am sure the sky will be full of B-25's next spring...
