Hi,

I have a new 26cc MVVS. I have put only 1 tank of 25:1 fuel throught it with needle settings as per the manual.
Today when I wanted to run it for another tank, I noticed that the crank has a bit of play (less than 1mm).

The play is not side to side, but in line with the rotation of the prop. (I hope this makes sense!)

Is this something to be concerned about or is this normal? I can't remember whether it was like this before the first run, with all the excitement etc.

Thanks!

Hi Helge,

My play is also in the rotational direction. At the tip of 18 inch prop, I also have about 1mm. Fore and aft, no play at all.
Phew, I am feeling quite relieved, it seems that this bit of rotational play is normal. I have not noticed a clicking noise, but I am going to start it up again just now, then I will pay attention to any noises.

Thanks very much!
Sny.

PS: I have replaced the originall pitts style muffler I got with the engine with a inverted down muffler, and I seem to have gained almost 200rpm. It is turning the 18x6 at 8100 RPM.

The clicking I mention is just the sound of the play when the prop is wiggled fast enough and the engine is warm.

So in the future any wear should be compared to the "as new" play. Useful information!

Off topic: I use the original tuned pipe. I have not measured the rpm, but I tied the plane up with a fishing weight at the tail and an 18x6 prop. The static thrust was 7 kgs or 15.4 pounds.

Helge.

Hi Helge,

Thanks for the off topic note that is also very useful information! My plane (Epsilon) should be around 5.5kg when complete.
Now I just need to figure out my small ignition problem. I am on a learning curve. (First gas engine, I am used to glow)
