When it comes to antenna's and their signal characteristics it's actually not good if you fold it back on itself. For example you run the wire through the tube and then fold over 6 inches back over the outside of the tube and tape it down or something, you actually cancel out that section of wire by doing that.

What I did with my GST was ran the antenna through the tube and left about 1/2" stick out, folded that over the end and stuck the cap on, then I took a 1/2 or so piece of heat shrink tubing and carefully heating it around the cap to cover the wire, and stop my damn cap from popping off the when I'd remove the body.

I can run that thing really far away without any issues, as for the 2-3" of slack I made a nice neat loop so it comes out of the side of the receiver and folds under it, and then out the hole.

Hey burningpoo, you said box! oh wait so did I.. heheh box

Finally had my Magnum NX out for a real spin and it was freaking awesome!

I have installed pretty much everything I had been told and the range is now 40 meters or so. Now exactly as much as expected, but still enough to make the car stretch it's legs.
