Anyone here try to run the miglet or xpd-8 with the stock 370 motor? My first motor failed just following the break in. Since it was glued into the airframe, I called GP and they sent me a new kit. This time I was much more careful. I made sure I could get back to the motor if need be. Unfortunately, this time the motor came apart and spit little chunks out the tail cone on the final step of the break in. I don't think this motor can handle the heat. I guess I will have to go brushless. I am using a 3 cell battery, which is inside of the specs. I have used the same motor on my warbirds without a problem. I think it is a venting issue.

Anyone else have this kind of experience?

Bob

The problem that I had with the stock motor, is that it's not enough power to even launch. Definately should've gone brushless from the get-go.

One thing i have found is the motors are not blanced ...Have XPD-8 and ran the motor on the bench. It bounced all around....took it apart and found a glob of epoxy on the armature..ground it of and balanced and it runs pretty good now....I like the fan unit and ordered 5 for a project..found only 2 of the motors perfectly balanced the other 3 were of in varios amount...havuing Tower send me 3 new motors..will see how they work...Ck you motor on the bench with speed control..ez up the power to full power..it should have a nice wine and stay in one spot.. I would be happy to hear of another airframe that would serve as a jumping off point for EDF. The XPD-8 upgraded with the recommended brushless motor is still under $100. Any others you might recommend in that ballpark? I didn't plan on sticking with the XPD-8 very long. It was to serve as a place to experiement. I have extensive experience in glow from 1/2a to 90 size scale and aerobatic aircraft. I recently decided to play with electric since I can catch a quick flight at the soccer field between classes at the local university.
