Get the SE or SA. Just the SE has aluminum and carbon fiber. I bought a used one on ebay and it works great, just gotta know what to look for. But I'd recommend buying a new one and putting it together. You'll learn lots of stuff dealing with rc heli's if you put it together.

Ditto the SE or SA, depending on what your wallet can handle. Just know that the SE is more money, its a bit heavier cuz of all the aluminum, and being new to the hobby, replacing a $40 aluminum part after the inevitable crash hurts a lot more than a $15 plastic one that works the same. I have the SA, it has some metal parts and the price is fair, also, I plan to upgrade to aluminum those parts that would 1) benefit and 2) break due to stupid thumbs. Good choice tho on the Trex, a lot of people (myself included) start on a sub par Blade or similar micro. Dont get me wrong, they are pretty fun little machines, just not worth the cost to keep in the air. Trex=much better heli for the money.

I picked up a 450-SA used and have loved it. I have a DX6 setup with HS65HB cyclic servos, a Futaba 3107 on the tail, the RCE-500X Gyro with the Align 3550 motor and 35A ESC. The SA is cheap to fix and fairly easy to work on. The stablity is night and day compared to all of the smaller cheap electrics (I had both a CP-Pro and a Falcon-3d). There seem to be lots of used SA's and SE's out there, I guess lots of folks think they will master the hobby and give up.

yeah, I bought a used MX400 for really cheap just because the owner didn't know that one of the tail pulleys was worn out.

i just made the same decision and i thought about it like this i wont regret buying a nicer heli but i would regret buying and cheaper one. also as a rule of thumb if your going to stay in the hobby buy the nicest you can aford so you dont end up buying another one later on unless you just want two. i bought a se v2 silver and it was relitively easy to assemble because the rotor head and tail assembly is done for you.

A mate crashed my T-Rex 450s the other day so I have purchased the copter x to use as a metal replacements parts bin. Only $169USD for a full metal heli.

Pretty good value I guess, and all the parts are interchangeable.

Let us know which one you end up choosing.

best

SA has the direct to swashplate servo locations for true eCCPM, and a few upgrades.

I would vote for the SA over the XL. In fact, I would venture to say it probably flies about as good as an SE. I don't know for sure because I've never flown one, but reviews are great. The CCPM thing is a very very big deal. You want that. I really like (and own two) .50 class nitro helis. But I fly my trex almost every day. It does every move very well. Its just smaller.

Oh...and if you get the SA....first thing to upgrade should be the flybar. Get the 220mm flybar...it makes a big difference.

Well, it looks like you guys have me sold on a 450 SA w/DX6 or better yet(?) DX7. I keep forgetting that "cheap skates spend the most" and this is especially true with RC helis.

get the S. You build it yourself as a kit. A bit cheaper and you learn how it fits together on the way.
