Try searching and you will find no end of threads on the net and many attempts, no one has succeeded.

What about a harrier turbine/ramjet thing? where the jumpjet part starts off with a turbine and then a ramjet takes over at 400 miles perhour?

or perhaps some solid fuel boosters (rocket engines) propel it to 400 while the wings sweep back and ramjets start?

It would have to have a camera system with high strength transmitters in order to be able to see where it is going, of course. Perhaps the shell could be made completely of carbon fiber in order to be able to stand up to the extreme conditions that would occur with such an airplane.

Once the world speed record for a privately funded airplane is broken, we can start producing them for the military to be spy planes over russia and china to patrol for missiles and to see if they want to take us over.

We could fit it with a small machine gun to destroy missiles. Or lazors. Or microwaves.

I'll get my engineers right on it.

Hi m8, how ya gettin on with the project? I went through a bunch of sites last night, and success is pretty thin on the ground on this one!! A common theme seems to be POWER!!, maybe soon well have the batteries and elec motors we need???

http://flyaussierc.moby58.com/forum/index.php?topic=177.0

Above is a link to a little wa forum i help moderate, where i am posting progress on my attempt?! Im aiming small, using a single 60mm duct. This is just on the margin of getting off the ground with the losses of the VERY inefficent reation control system. Tommorow i will be starting a 2 duct model, for more thrust, and with keeping with the Pegasus theme of counter rotating compressor fans. Heres to hoping Cheers CHRIS

...Actually, one did succeed. But the guy was a genius, and I don't know where the website is. (No rockets and "stuff"... ) It was a one-off design, I'm sure in another country, and pretty much everything was engineered from the ground up. Functioning bypass turbofan with scale exhaust, all custom built. It was on the internet before videos were easy to stream. Do some browsing in google, you'll find it. BTW, it was very heavy, and very large compared to most models. Perhaps as big as a 1/3 scale, but as heavy as three.

Finally found a pic of the legendary Mr Eric Dainty, and his harrier, that is by general aggrement, the only succesfull rc harrier project so far. The machine had been, and gone before the internet was around, so almost none of the old links and references still work. BUT, still looking!!
Mr Dainty if your out there, we could use a little help here!!!
The body looks as if it comes as a fiber glass shell(maybe a byron original),thanks to the fact it is obviously unpainted, and looks in the 40/ 50 size range. But it was too supposed to have a os 91 size motor in it!!!! Full flaps and possibly retracts and had a run time of about 5 mins. Lots of cool details, that put things into perspective, in particular the size and power of the motor in relation to the model itself. Thats like putting one of my thumpin 90 3d heli motors into some guys little 46 la trainer plane!!! SCARY!!
Back to the drawing board!! I had suspected for a while now, that a screaming little 15 size buggy motor might be worth a lookin, but after seeing the attached pic, i just dont even see the buggy motor getting the power needed. So,, time to upscale, ill copy Mr Dainty`s effort as closely as possible. And my motors would leave the ones he had back then for dead!! Yeah, im in the mood now for some stupid power!!!
