This is just as bad as the suggestion of dogfighting with BB guns mounted on the plane. R/C flying has enough safety issues attached to it without deliberately trying to make it worse.

You may have done it once or twice with no one getting hurt or anything getting damaged. That's what the drunk driver said too.

BTW, please don't go into the "combat" or "turbine engine" arguments...I didn't make the rules for those, LOL!! (and keep your $%&* fingers off the prop!)

Now if you'll all excuse me, I gotta go enter the "Running With Scissors" Marathon Be safe, y'all.

while i know this is the most distructive and hazerdous attitude, the danger is the fun. if you attatched the planes to strings and put a wire cage wround yourself it would not be any fun. i don't really try and hurt myself, and i don't really follow that attitude, nothing is safe, the companies just have their ideas of what it is.

Hmmm....I always thought, and I would have the "hard-core" paintballers correct me if I'm wrong (which I'm sure they will ), that paintball guns had such a thing as a velocity adjustment screw??!! I mean....I don't own a $500 marker.....just a 'lil "cheapie" to let me enjoy the sport every now and then(about 5-10 times a year), and even that low-end marker has an adjustment screw (currently at 270fps...and can be set lower) . And true, my marker CAN be cranked up, but I don't want to hurt anyone.
So IMHO, just flatly stating that a marker has a 300 fps velocity w/o explaining a bit more is somewhat mis-leading. Therefore, it could be feasible to combine a velocity limit (which is always observed at our paintball field) on the markers being used in any flying-field activity...and freezeing the paintballs (making them easier to break open on contact )to virtually eliminate punch-throughs and greatly limit potential damage!! Plus....sounds like great fun to me..... , undertaken by responsible adults of course

Just my 2c,

Brian

I remember reading an article in MODEL AVIATION (or RCM) about 10-12 years ago where a club did exactly that at an organized publicly attended meet. They charged people to take shots at the plane on a fly-by. THe plane was one of the Aircore trainers. The plane was also equipped to drop paintballs on a larger-than-archery-target bullseye. The plane took a few hits without damage, until somebody flew it through the bullseye (target fixation occurs in 1/8 scale, too). Raised a pile of money for the club!

"paintballs at rc airplanes WHERE DO I sign up!!!!"

Just putting in my 2 cents but it probably is a bad idea. The best way to go is with a ZAGI 400x man they take some pretty hard beatings and still fly... Not to mention its foam and once hit the battery pops out goes straight down.
ETA 5 min and ur back up wit a charged pack and ready to go at it again. talk about a money maker!

I've stayed out of this so far but the more I think about it, the more fun it sounds. My best friend and flying partner is also a huge paintball freak and I can't figure out why we hav'nt put the two together already. I think I might try to make this a regular thing at the field and I'm going to buy a paint ball gun today to do just that. It seems like no matter what you do there is someone who is going to try and turn it into something dangerous and make rules to try and make you stop doing it, it also seems that these are the people that think anything but flying in left hand circles is dangerous and should be ruled out of existance. Besides it would be a great excuse for crashing instead of the old I got a radio hit thing, and you would have the proof to prove it.

Please make sure you pick up a mask and barrel plug, and use them.

heres a heli i got borred of .... got hit with like 600 paintballs (used up over 2000 in the process)

it was fun watching the fiberglass coming apart piece by piece ... the mechanics took full rounds without a problem, and the heli would not go down ..... a vertical crash landing was in order to finish the days fun ....

NOTE: this was done at a NON AMA location, ( an industrial area parking lot)

We also shot up a 80 Cap untill it was swiss chese and fell out of the sky ..... unfortunately, no pics of that ...

After flying bigger scale helis like this, a paintball gun is the most fun we could come up to have with a 30 sized century airwolf ....
