Is my a123 battery dead?
How can I tell if my a123 cell is dead? I have a unused cell that is reading .3 volts. I put together a 4s and tried to charge but got error on two different hyperion balance adaptors. I checked and found that one cell is only reading .3 volts. That cell was never charged before. The other 3 was previously a 3s pack. So far I love a123 cells because of there rapid charge rate. But I hope they come out with lighter, faster charge rate and higher capacity cells soon.

Hello hotgluedheli,
What charger are you useing for your A123 battery's. I have a Hyperion ESO 5idp AC/DC Charge and it does not include the A123 cell pack charger settings.

pull the one cell and charge it up to 3.6 volts -same as others - it may work just fine
I went thru this too those balancers can be a pain in the butt when there are two unequal cells tsoldered into a pack - charge each cell to same voltage - solder em up then discharge the pack to 2 volts and recharge

RE: Is my a123 battery dead?
Thanks to everyone that replied. Capt. I'm using the hyperion eos1210i with the lba10 balancer. Yes I found out that my battery is still good. I just had to apply voltage to it to bring it back up so that my charger could charge it. What I did was just zap it with 12v from an ac adaptor until the voltage came back up. I wish the hyperion had an adustable voltage cutoff level so that the battery didn't have to be at least 3v before the charger wiill charge it. It's somehwat of an inconvenience having to charge it as a nimh or nicad pack just to bring up the voltage to the point that I can switch over to 123 charge mode. Thanks again.
