how are you? How are the pattern contests going?

I have a question regarding servo life and gear play. I've asked a similar question in the past.


How do you recognise when to replace a servo?

These days I'm finding that my 3 years old aileron servos seems to give minor trimming issues. For example, my ail trim seems to be less precise than when I set-up it, several months ago. They have a bit of gear play, and with my engine at itle, I've observed a little oscillation on one servo... should I replace them?

Status: offline 		I recommend a device called a MatchMaker from JR. This is a small box that cycles the servos at a very slow rate (or fast rate). It allows you to hold the wing in your hand while you plug it in and sight down the aileron for example. You can tell as the control surface passes through neutral it slows down or even stops momentarily on a very worn servo. This could be due to gear slop but normally a worn pot. Just send the servos back to Horizon and they will service them for reasonable fee and prompt service. I have not had any issues with gear slop on my 8411 SA and 9411 SA servos to date. By the way the MatchMaker also assists with changing out a servo at the field in that it allows you to get servo center and allows you to quickly adjust mechanically center point on servo without having to plug the wing into the fuselage- you can hold the wing on the work bench or even while sitting comfortably in a chair.
