I have a question for you glider guys:

I am building a scale model (1/6 scale DH 89A Rapide) that has a very thin wing. At the aileron it is about .40" thick at the thickest point and only has about 4" of total chord. Any suggestions as how to drive the aileron so linkage is in wing and so I can locate the servo farther inboard where its thicker. I have thought about regular "torque rod" type linkage but it is about 40" to the body. I think that I would have a problem with the rod twisting and also problems if the wing flexes.

I have looked at the RDS style of linkage and it would be perfect if I did not have to locate the servo so close to the aileron. Is there another way to use the RDS type linkage and locate the servo inboard by 15 inches?

Thanks,
Jeremy

I don't see why you couldn't use the RDS type linkage without positioning the servo close to the aileron.
You just would have to make the rod that much longer.

Or make it truly scale with pull-pull cables.

If you do go the RDS route get the heavy duty machined parts from IFR:

I used the RODS system on a Daves Aircraft P51 and they work great. The rods I got from Wa. are about 6' long. You might call the fellow in Wa. he was quite helpful when I called and ordered rods from him. I bought the whole kit collers, rods and box's. You can go to his web sight and there are pics of installations in thin wings. Good luck Merrill
