Peter, I'm in agreement with the Russian bird. Dino & PJ, do a Russian bird. I'll donate time to help ya make it right! The good news is most of the Russian birds had the Clark Y or YH airfoil making the wing nearly the same as the Miester-Scale wings of today. The Yak-3 used the Clark YH at 14% at the root and 10% at the tip, making a rather easy to build wing. The MiG-3 used the Clark YH at 14% at the root and 8% at the tip, with a middle panel and the outer wings making a quick building wing that can be made in three parts for easy shipping. The LaGG-3 used the NACA 23016 at the root and 23010 at the tip which makes it a bit more difficult and not quite the best flier for a kit. (if I'm not mistaken this was the same airfoil used on the P-38 but using a different tip, 4406 or something like that) The La-5 used the same airfoil as the LaGG-3. Thus either the MiG-3 or the Yak-3 would make a good choice in my book. The Yak-3 has been modeled a few times, Patrick McCurry, Jerry Bates and Red Star RC. The MiG-3 has only been accurately modeled by IMPScale (1/5th) and Romain Research (1/4th). The IMPscale one is rather accurate lines, the RR one needs a little work, but it's still mostly decent. Some other planes for thought: Hienkel He-100 Messerschmitt Bf 108 Taifun Henschel Hs 126
