I got my new 61CX last Friday (5 days from ordering). Today I opened it up and took photos and weighed it. Here they are.

For weight comparison the closest engine I had is the Enya 80XF. It should be very close in weight to the 60XF, I only have pumped rear exhaust 60s.
Next I disassembled the engine to peak inside. It was very clean inside and seems to be typical Enya (well made). The con-rod is bushed on both ends, the new button type head is Bar-stock aluminium with no glow plug bushing. I really like the nickel plating on the crankshaft to keep rust from forming on the counter-ballance and getting into the rear bearing.

It is hard to make out in some of the photos but the sleeve is angled and smoothed for the fuel ports. The crankcase is releaved for the fuel ports, and seem to be wider and shallower due to the small case.

I've run 1 tank of fuel through it with an APC 12X6 and Enya 3 (4 is recomended, but I don't have one). Starts easily and sounds good. I'm running it rich still and don't know peak numbers yet.

More later!

No I didn't. I'm sure the sleeve is quite a bit heavier, it's ABN, vice AAC. The bolts and crankshaft are the smaller 40, 45 50CX, size as well as the case which is why the engine is so much lighter. It is also a one piece case vice the 2 piece of the XFs. The 80XF I weighed is a ringed engine not AAC so it might be heavier than the 60XF AAC.
I've run 3 tanks of 10% nitro with 18% castor synth blend + 3oz castor added per gallon: APC 12X6 hold about 10800 with a steady 2200 -2400 idle. The carb is a 2-needle carb plus an airbleed for idle trim. This seems to be a good combination for getting a good mid-range and idle. Need more time on the engine before it's locked in. So far, so good!

Good deal, Thanks, I grabbed this one in south western Va. when I heard they were no longer made. He still has a NIB 120R I might grab also.

Larsen,

Thanks very much for the informative posts. It looks like a rock solid product, as expected from Enya.

That thing is absolutely beautiful! Does anyone else get the impression that Mr. Ken Enya takes a lot of pride in his product? I love that matt/textured surface Enya puts on their cases; it almost sparkles in the light.

Can you tell what the liner is coated with? The specs say ABN which points to Nickel, but Mr Enya himself has stated that it's a ceramic coating.

I have ordered one too and i'm anxiously following the EMS mail tracking website. It left Japan yesterday and i hope to get it by tommorrow but monday is a more realistic expectation.

A 12x6 at 10,800pm is close to the figures Mr Enya gave me for a 11.5x8 at 10,500.

I'm getting the same figures out of a Saito .62 for 1oz less weight. I'm hoping the Enya improves with use.

What plane to you plan on using this in? I still haven't decided, but my short list is down to the GP Venus 40 or SIG Sundancer 50 Bipe.

It's good to know I'm not the only one to strip a brand new engine just for a peek inside . Did you happen to measure port timings and so on? It looks like a typical Enya though. Beautiful . I believe there are two different head buttons, one for the RC and another for the CL version. That kind of goes back to the early days with the 29/35's that had high and low compression heads. My guess now that I've seen the liner is that it's an ABN and not ceramic going by the colour but the only ceramic liner I've seen is the Norvel which is more of a silvery grey.

That is one compact engine, should be great for lite airplanes. I look for debris inside new engines, never found much in an Enya but ALWAYS find some in other brands, even OS.

I did not measure the timing, I was too eager to run it.

I'm planning on putting it in a Super Kaos 60 that hasn't been started yet.

I think this engine will get stronger with age. It generally takes a couple of gallons to break in an Enya. I also think the large bore, short stroke is going to allow it to really unload in the air, but I'm not familiar with engines of this configuration. We'll see, but it will be a while before I have an airplane to fly it on.

Mine just arrived.

I ordered very late on Monday night and recieved it Friday Afternoon.

The operating instructions say the liner is Brass, Nickel Plated of silicon carbide composite and the Crank Shaft is Steel, Nickel Plated of Teflon composite.

I can see some cross hatching in the liner when looking through the exhaust port. Is that normal?
