Thanks for the info. I didn't know this hobby existed. Actually I owned a SPAD and didn't know it until now. I used to have the US Aircore f-16 coregated plastic airplane. It bit the dust though. I must say all I could to is laugh at the way the engine flew a good 30 feet from the site of impact. I could laugh because the plane was nothing to be proud of. I will have to investigate more on this side of the hobby. :D

While the US Aircore planes are made of Coroplast, they are far from simple and FAR from inexpensive.

The SPAD boys have taken the concept to a high level of performance while maintaining simplicity and hyper-low cost.

even though spads are really cheep and all....THEY ARE AS HARD AS HELL TO TRY AND MAKE :mad:
it took me all summer to put one together the spad stang manly because there was no angles on the tail and the instructions were poor,the wing takes a heck of a lot of practice to make and with all the coroplast i bought it wasn't soooooo cheep any more. :mad: :mad: :mad: :mad: :thumbdown :thumbdown

over all i would just pay an extra bit for a kit.....it would save you the time and you won't end up mad as heck trying to get that wing just right.

Having built kits for 20 years...and my last one taking approx 30-40 hours to complete...and then getting into Spads 5 years ago...the scale Spads taking 6-8 hours to build (while designing at the same time and taking photos)...and the non-scale Spads taking 3-4 hours to design and build, and then the latest rail Spads taking about 2 hours to design and build. lol hey buddy i am only14 years old and already have built 4 kits....considering i have been in the hobby less the a year....
and it takes me about a couple days to put a scale combat kit together....

Compared to the easiest of ARF's out there, SPADs are a tad harder to assemble at first, mostly due to some of the techniques being a bit differnet than just turning a screwdriver. So, if your total "modeling" experience is "super-easy ARF trainer", that's one thing.

However, compare SPAD to plans-building or scratch building in wood, and it's a whole differnet ballgame. SPADs are much easier and faster and less expensive.

And compare the time to deisn and build a totally new airplane from out of thin air, and it's not even close. SPADs make it a lot easier to let your creative side out and build all kinds of odd things. And if it doesn't work out quite right, big deal.

Hey buddy old pal, you're not going to win any friends over copping an attitude like that. The "I'm just a kid" defense is only going to get you so far before people start getting ticked off. You might want to play nice, because the people you're ticking off are the same people you want help from.

Just because you picked the most difficult SPAD to build as your first SPAD project doesn't mean SPADs are hard to build. Heck the SPADstang is barely a SPAD at all. The S stands for Simple, and the SPADstang ain't simple. Try building an open design with some of that leftover Coroplast you have and see how much easier it is to build.

If you'rs is a SPAD where's the plans. You said a SPADstang was hard to build but you have a Kawasaki? I find that extremely odd-making what you say a little difficult to digest.

because we make all of are own planes...usualy
check out this....a guy made the tony at our club...

I see it, but I'll keep mine, since I built it from scratch myself with no plans. I like having the power on the nose as well..no offense.

I still don't see why you started posting here (and another thread the exact same post) about spads being hard as "hell" to build- yet you claim to build scale combat airplanes?? sorry if I don't get it.....

Don't let one single person deter you from checking out SPADS.

They are cheap, easy to build and fun! That's all you really need.!

Flapbreaker... and anyone else who hasn't checked out the corostang:

Don't write it off because one person had trouble with it. After building only a few spads, I made my first corostang and couldn't be happier with the results. They are incredible flyers; I actually have two of them now. They are not as easy as a gutter-pipe plane, but I don't think either of them took me more than 10-12 hours to build, and I am a perfectionist and tend to go pretty slowly. With a little deductive reasoning (very little) all measurements are in the plans, which I had no problems following.

Also, thanks Tatoo! If it weren't for spads, I wouldn't be involved in RC airplanes - and if it weren't for you, I wouldn't have a Mag 28-equipped, bright red corostang ready to go next weekend.

Did you see the Spadet Trainer? I'd say it was pretty refined looking compared to most of the SPADS. Not ugly at all. I will eventually build one myself. If I can find a good source for coro and plastic rain gutter in B,ham.
