dude, im building the same boat but i'm using the 72" plans....

about the engine, i just used a 33cc gas homelite weedeater engine and its the exact same as a zenoah u just have to do a little modifying...

im guessing since u re scaled it, a 22cc would b perfect

Hey rcking14, this one ended up at 56in long and 12 1/2in wide, the motor is a 26cc modded clone zen, all up it weighs in at 18lb, in the vid on page 16. Thats running at about 2/3 throttle. It still needs alot of tuning and trimming and maybe a 75mm prop.
Steve
P.S should have some GPS speeds on Sunday

Well today was very disapointing, it ran worse today than the other day, when i finely got it to move I only got 44kmh out of it . But on the good side I got alot of tuning information from the guys at the club. I have been trying to tune it all wrong, being a motor mechanic i took the low as a idle air bleed as in a car, A big wrong for these carbs. Now i have a better understanding of these carbs i will have to take it back to the local pond and start again.
Sorry no photos or vid (the camera man diddn't show up.)

bro did the engine sound like it was full revs did you chang the prop or prop angle i found with my boat the prop need ed to be higher than the bottom of the boat by prob 6-8mm lets the engine rev alot more

its 95% carb tuning at the moment. at the moment is stalls off the mark and i think its too lean when i do get it going, it serges i can see it in the rooster tail. the prop is still set level with the bottom of the boat. I will go and have a play tomorrow.

Steve,
My apologies I couldn't hang about to help you out today mate. I had to get back home and chat to a guy about welding up some new pipes for me. I had every intention of hanging about all afternoon, but it didn't eventuate unfortunuately.

I must say again, well done on the build mate, it looks really nice in the flesh, you've done a great job.

Must've been the day for boats not running too well................................mine ran like a pig, I was less than impressed with the performance of mine *(it will get a stern talking to during the week )

I will let you know next time we go up and we can do some "stealth.................closed water testing" without everyone there. We have the technology

Well had it out again today, Not alot of joy. But did manage to get another 1.5kmh out of it, its now doing 45.4kph. It's still only getting half the revs it's got. I started from scratch, 1 1/2 on both needles, then up and up on the low one to get good off the mark and mid range. Got to a point on the L and things went backwards, so back to the last setting on the L. then started going up on the H, at times it would have just a flat spot and others it would serge but never rev out. (idle was all over the shop as well) I found a happy spot and then played with the strut, up,down, trim up, trim down. The only thing I didn't try is cranking the tabs down to lift it's but out of the water. I think now I will remove the carb and isolator block and check the gaskets and surfaces, The H does'nt seem to be doing much at all. I know its got more,(Hope alot more) its a matter of finding it.
Steve
OH Yea, just about rolled it too, it doug in on a corner, a bit fast and turning too sharp, it just glided along on it's side for about 3 boat lengths and then flopped back down and stalled lol, even my son said oh sh#*## as I did.

thats a bugger bro you could ring rc jets and see if they have had any probs with those engines b4 it could be the seting on the pick up coil is it ajustable ???? have a look at the one you took off they might have moded it to change timing when they did the engine

and yeah checkfor leaks on carb block as you have out lined

Ha. Found u lurking around here Jonno. Yes u are right. Total turd of a day! NOthing i was doing was getting my little hydro tuned either. Must endorse Jonno's comments though Steve, that mono is a SWEET looking build. The detail is exemplary. I'm sure we will all have a better week next time.

Hi all, Got a chance to play with the boat tonight ( I got told to stop playing with the lathe and get on with the boat) So I pulled the carb and isolator block off and found the gasket between the carb and the block had a deep indent in it (dark mark in pic) I would have been a clear path betweem the pulse port and the intake port. Secondly i found the brass inserts are about .38mm above the surface of the isolator. I will have to order some new gaskets and flie the isolator flat or get a Zenoah one. The carb is a RULING with no number on it???????
