I'm in the same boat as you with the length and all. ha ha.

Anyway. I will probably be the first to put the full 72" in the water if I don't end up cutting it down. I have everything cut and will be gluing it tonight. I'll try to get some pictures up as well.

Hi all, Xirus, I got my plans printed at 75% at the printers and then added 25mm to the centre of the V to make the boat wider. So mine will be 54in long and 12in wide (at the widest point) I will see how it goes. Come on show some pics of yours. Here are some update pics, I started the hull sheeting all glued and nailed, tomorrow i will pull the nose down and glue it too.

I have been in OZ for 19 years and still haven't had half my brain removed. ( Might have to get it done soon, due to tax reasons)

10mm nails, with the air pressure turned right down so the nail doesn't go so deep. No splitting so far, just have to make sure it's in the middle of the ply(frames) and not to close to the end.

Sorry it took so long guys. I got tied up in other things. I'm actually on my way out with the Canadian Navy to study as a Marine Engineer.

Here is the frames put in place. I'm going to bolt it back down to the jig tomorrow and start putting the skin on. One problem I ran in to, I have to be extra careful right now because when I got the wood I called my girlfriend on the way back from work and asked her to pick me up some 1/4" ply, regular ply in the hardware section.

Well. Apparently some jerk at Home Depot convinced her that what I need is 1/4 pine because its "better"
She ended up buying it and getting it cut in to the sections I need. This stuff is brittle on the inside with a ply of pine on each side of the pressed chip wood. It was easy to cut but scary because the inside is so brittle.

I was pretty mad but its together and after the skin and fiberglass goes on I wont worry so much.

Here is what I have so far.

Looks good Xirus, I just hope it's strong enough, especially where the motor mounts to the rails. Also be sure to coat the whole inside of the boat with epoxy because I suspect that stuff might not be waterproof. I'd hate to see anyone put that much work into something and have it fall apart. Doug

Oh I'll definitely be coating it with either epoxy or polyester resin. as for the engine compartment I plan to put in 2 aluminum rails on the stringers. it wont add much weight besides I plan to put in something with 30+cc's This is my first speed boat and I want it to be fairy cheap. Its also a learning experience for me.
