Hey I just recently blew the dust off of my old Hirobo XRB (Non-tethered) and got some replacement skids and blades. However this thing is just constantly breaking and the foam wings are really a pain even though they're designed to break. I can never get this thing stable and it's just pissing me off. I am looking for a different helicopter; one that is supported better as far as accessories, upgrades, etc. I'd also like an easy to fly, stable, and simple heli that I can just fool around with in the garage, family room, and occasionally in the cul-de-sac. I also would like something with solid blades; not foam. Finally, something fairly cheap. Like around $250 and under. Thanks!
Edit; I was looking at a Heli-Max AXE Ez. How are those thingys? Also what about this? I love the price of that one plus it has 3D capabilities and training gear.

Hi agent,

The HM Axe Ez is a good heli that, meets your needs for a simple indoor and limited outdoor use model. The Esky Lama V3 or V4 (~$100) and the Eflite CX or CX 2 (~$200) would also fit your needs. Be sure to check with your local hobby shop for which brands and parts they carry before you make your choice. Most shops carry carry Eflite helicopters and parts BTW.

The Axe CP as well as the Esky CP (~$125) and Eflite Blade CP (~200) are not well suited for the indoor use you mention. These CP units are also more complicated, and less stable then the coax dual rotor models listed above. However, there are far more upgrades available for these units and they offer superior performance as well.

Good luck and good flying!

This is good advise. STAY AWAY from "CP" heli's if your are looking "easy to fly, simple, and stable" I'm not sure but I believe that the eflite cx heli's would have the most avaliable accesories.
Also keep in mind that the coax heli's are rarely able to fly outdoor. There must be no wind.

Good luck with whatever you choose.
Noah

I'm having a great time with my Honey Bee FP. It's my first R/C heli, but I've been flying R/C planes for a few decades.
Hobby-Lobby sells them for $109 (+8 shipping), and that includes an 800mAh LiPo battery and charger. It's pretty much
ready to fly right out of the box, and handles a gentle breeze well. You can find LOTS of video for this heli on YouTube, and
that'll give you an idea of how it flies.

P.S. Hobby-Lobby's site says that the HB FP comes with only a DC charger adapter, but it also has an AC wall charger. Not bad !

Thanks everyone! I just bought a HM Axe EZ today and it looks great. I will fly it tomorrow as soon as I get home.

I suggest that you NOT fly it as soon as you get home. If you were having difficulties with a coax, you will probably find the exercises offered at Radd's School of Rotary Flight to be very useful. It is a good way to get flying with minimal risk to your heli.

Good luck. Let us know how you do!
Vince

Uhh, I'm a newbie, what's a coax? I'm sorry I didn't read this before I flew it today. But I absolutely love it. It's super stable and in my opinion easier than the XRB. I was walking down the street with it hovering right next to me no problemo. I also had it flying about our family room with no problems at all. Don't worry I'm smart enough to fully charge my packs before flying. Anyone know if there are some sort of stronger skids for it available? Carbon fiber possibly? I really also like the idea of carbon fiber training...stick thingys. The things that hold the foam balls that help land flat and not chop any blades...or motors.

they would probably fit your heli, but check out boomtown hobbies. They have some super skids for the cx2 that just may fit your heli =)

Currently they don't have the skids in stock at Boomtown for the EZ but they do have a carbon fiber boom. They claim this makes it more nimble. Is it true? Also what kind of batteries could give me a better run time?

not sure about being more nimble =P I actually don't own a cx2 or any other 4ch coax heli =). About the battery 1000mAh packs, I forget what brand they were using, but there is a specific one that will fit stock without mods. Otherwise you have to cut the body so the battery will fit

Sweet! Now the top blades don't spin! I don't think the motor is spinning. Yes I had a minor crash but I swear to god that it flew after that. It flew great for about 2 minutes then it just plummeted. I know it sounds like a load of BS but I swear it's true.
Edit; I found the problem. One of the wires leading to the motor became disconnected and I can't trust myself with a sodering iron. I'm going to bring it to the shop and let them soder it. I already burnt my finger on the fricken iron!

Those "stick" soldering irons are great for burning your fingers huh? Soldering guns are better at preventing this yet, I still find myself using an iron for soldering wires. Irons seem to offer better heat transfer IMO, and I usually wear leather gloves while using them. And yes, I've burned my fingers numerous times while using irons!

Coax is short for Coaxial (a shaft running within a shaft) rotor helicopters. CoCo stands for "Contra Rotating" and "coax", "CoCo", and "dual rotor", are terms often used to describe the same type of helicopter. We just can't "keep it simple" can we?

Just tin the wire and then leave a bit extra solder on the tip of the wire and with the iron just leave it on enough to flow the solder onto the part it came off

Thanks everyone! I didn't know there was a difference between an iron and a gun really. But the guy at the hobby shop did it for me in 30 seconds no charge. I needed nitro anyways for my other baby. I'm back in business.
