Well guys........this is my final report on my jato.........

yesturday i tryed out the tallest gearing i could possibably use and still this thing came out of the whole like a beast but in the end the motor is way to much for the jato... i tryed everything to get this thing to work right i played with the suspention, cambers, 2nd gear timing weight in the front ripped out the wing ect..........the main problem i had was the fact that no matter how slow i eased into the gas once the motor would open up a little ove HALF WOT all of a suddent it was a huge BURST and the motor would start screaming after that it was imposable to get the rear tires to hook onto the ground, it would take for ever to pick up speed becuase i couldnt floor it i needed a big roll out and still i couldnt control it i dout i was able to break 60 MPH with out looseing control off the car and honestly i was pist off that i couldnt control it i was litterally banging the jato all over the place and i was worried about the motor and pipe geting damage......finally the LAST AND FINAL STRAW was when i lost control and ramed into my friends little pit area and crashed into his brand new bottel of OD fuel........as you can image the bottle basical blew up............in the crash some how the hump pack wire for slashed and the hump back started geting nice and fat and i had to rip it off and watch it blow up a few feet away......and my rear shock tower broke...........i havent broken a part or crashed on any of my 17 cars in the past 6 months.........i was REALLY PIST........bascialy on the spot i ripped my motor,reciver,and servos out and try to sell the jato on the spot LOL (failed tho i still have it) i also ripped out all that upgraded breaking and aluminum servo horn and gave it to the guy whos bottle i crashed into (he has a jato to and at the begin of the night was asking me where i got it) i felt bad his 30 bucks whent downt he drain so i gave him those parts and i kept his stock ones (i think that was the right thing to do he was happy)

i can honestly say this project was a complete waste of time, ive built some fast freaking cars before but this one REALLY REALLY SUCKED becuase in the end the motor was just to much for the car RWD just wasnt working, if it was 4WD it would have bein perfect

if anyone has any questions feel free to ask.........

BTW the car is going on ebay rolling chassis....so for u ebay surfers ull see it there soon

Gear pitch do not effect the ratio.

Gear pitch does effect ratio b/c the ratio we are calculating is the amount of turn's that the motor takes and how many turns the wheels take at the ground. The teeth don't matter as much as the size of the gears you are using 1.0 metric vs .08 it translates differently.

Here is the link you need to finish doing your calculations. You need the pitch ratio the top gear ratio inside the dif so the 7. whatever ratio

++++engine rotation++++++ 43000
++++Dif Ratio 2nd gear++++ 7.29
++++Spur Gear Clutch Bell and pitch+++ 1.46
++++Tire Diameter+++++++

http://www.robinsonracing.com/gearratio.html
http://www.traxxas.com/support/index.php?action=artikel&cat=91&id=281

i used those two links to figure out my ratio

I stand behind my statement and my final calculation.

You have two gears with with a 1.0 pitch and two gears with another pitch, they will operate on each other based on the ratio of the teeth between them, not the pitch.

Lets say I have a 66tooth gear engaging a 33tooth gear, lets further say that the 66t gear is 6ft tall with a very large pitch and the 33t gears is of the same pitch and and of the correct size to engage the 6ft gear, (maybe 2ft tall).

These will yield the same ratio of some tiny 66t/33t R/C sized gears, regardless of the pitch of the teeth.

IE the small gear will turn 3 times for every one revolution of the big gear.

The numbers in this chart are the overall drive ratios using available clutchbells and and Spurs... I used this table to calculate the ratio behind the spur gear. In my calculation I used the ratio of the clutchbell/spur gear combo that Miami was using. I calculated the ratio using the number of teeth on his gears, no pitch needed to calculate the ratio between 2 gears.

I used the bottom row of this table to solve for the ratio behind the Spur..
f(c) = 7.96/(54/22)
f(c) = 8.25/(56/22)
f(c) =8.54/(58/22)
f(c) = ratio behind spur

Seriously, if I am wrong let me know!!

4wd will not make a difference because the jato is so light...it needs more weight

i think if you make some custom body panels and make it look like a 1/8th onroad car then it will help with the downforce and handling. i wished i lived closer to you cuz id love to work on that thing and make it work out. too bad it didnt for you

So it ain't the size of the motor that counts then, right?

so in the end the jato with a picco .26 max wins by actually having grip.

ofcourse it wins its a slow reving low RPM motor...........the stock 3.3 motor spits out high RPM ofcrouse the picco will work ive bein saying that from the start its just nothing out of this world.........the jato cant hang with a real high end offroad motor it needs a onroad type motor............

also the weight wasnt the factor ive put bigger motors on smaller cars but with 4WD the rules change the problem was the rear tires would over power the fronts big time thats why i couldnt control it..........maybe if i drove it on a freshly paved high grip street i would have bein able to drive it........

im not upset tho i still have my high speed buggies that will outrun any stock jato 3.3 that pulles up next to it

size isnt always what matters the most important thing is timing........if u would mount something like for example a cheapo ofna 21 or HPI 21 or something simliar the jato would run fine since its a slower reving motor and lower RPM motor...........but the fact mine picked up so dam quick it wouldnt let the car a chance to catch up.......

ive been against 3.3 jatos and measured my picco against my old 3.3 and the picco has less rpms but higher top speed and accelaration. explain that?

ok guy w/e apperently u have the fastest and bests thing on the street good job congradulation now can stop repeating ur self???

the only reson you outrun them is becuase u accelate quicker AND THE 3.3 MOTOR IS ONE OF THE SLOWEST REVING MOTORS ON THE MARKET try and race a jato with a OS 18 TZ and see what happens............now can we stop going over this over and over????

slapping an engine, and alloy arms dosnt make a car do 80mph mate. Especially on a 4wd ST, theres just to much driveline resistance, plus the fact that the MT2 is quite a heavy truck. What gearing are u running?

Another fella had a thread called RS4 MT2 jato killer, he had a 18TZ, Alot of lightened parts, the 2 speed, different gearing changes, THS tuned pipe etc and could only get in the 60s.
