JDHammer -> The next Top Flite Giant Scale Warbird (3/8/2003 9:26:28 PM)

Their website has a place to request your choice for the next aircraft to be produced. Anybody heard any rumors about the result of this poll?

After seeing Evan Quiros's website, I requested the Bearcat-man what a nice looking machine! You can feel the speed just looking at a picture of it. I know Ziroli has this aircraft available but a beginning warbirder might like the ease of a Top Flite version.

Which warbird would you request for the next Top Flite kit?

sbd!

grahamd1 -> The next Top Flite Giant Scale Warbird (3/8/2003 10:01:04 PM)

I rasied this request on a UK web-site, and I think about 20 people from this side of the pond have registered the De-Havilland Mosquito, on Top-Flites site :D

One of the nicest twin fighters/bombers of the war :cool: , sadly not kitted by many companies, but a thing of beauty.

Dig it -> The next Top Flite Giant Scale Warbird (3/9/2003 12:13:48 AM)

Among others, I suggested the Harvard II that the RCAF is currently using for their primary trainer. The only company that makes one is VMAR and there seems to be a number of bad reviews on their kits, not to mention its an ARF. (Warbirds are meant to be built)

Ram-bro -> Chances R (3/9/2003 12:42:39 AM)

Chances of TF doing a twin are pretty slim....unless it were to be a limited run kit. The Mosquito would be in my top 10. I would love to see more than just your standard fareof planes. We need something new and unusual and can stimulate both the imagination and the pocket book. I presently have the Hawker Hurricane ready for paint and that would be a interesting project to see TF put out but I think my top choice would be the AD1 Skyraider in 1/7 scale. A big beautiful scale airplane.

JDHammer... Don't sell yourself short. The Ziroli kits and plans are great. I'm sure that if you have built wood kits before, and you can read plans, you'll do just fine with a Ziroli. I'm willing to bet that the "Top Flite" kits are no easier to build then the Zirolis. Don't let the size fool you. IMO, bigger is easier to work on.

jetmex-RCU -> The next Top Flite Giant Scale Warbird (3/9/2003 3:23:39 AM)

Mitsubishi A6M Zero or a Kawasaki Ki-61 Hien.

ratherbflyin -> The next Top Flite Giant Scale Warbird (3/9/2003 4:05:30 AM)

1/ Messerschmitt BF109 (too many FWs around)
2/ Hawker Hurricane (too many Spits around)
3/ Grumman Avenger
4/ Grumman F6F Hellcat
We need more representation from the Pacific Theatre
Probably right about multi engine planes, but it sure
would be nice to see a Mitchell Bomber or a P38.
Pinch me l'm dreaming :o zzz

TLH101 -> The next Top Flite Giant Scale Warbird (3/9/2003 4:22:30 AM)

You know, if they did a Mosquito, they coul utilize the DC3 retracts. About 80-90" would be kool.

G-man has a good point. I'm looking at the Top Flite ad now and there are 7 US warbirds, 4 US civilian, 2 British warbirds and 1 German. How about an aircraft that both the Germans and the Japanese flew-the Me 163 Komet? I understand that there is a short kit of it out there and it flys like a dream. One fellow had a giant scale version with a G38 in it. Sure would be different but would it sell?

Bish Wheeler -> Kits: (3/9/2003 6:09:36 AM)

I don't want to insult anyone or start a "flame thowing" match, but tell me.....Why do you guys want some body to to "kit" a plane? You can scratch build nearly anything. Somewhere, somebody had drawn plans of your dream plane,......... so go build it. If you can build a complex aircraft from a kit, you can easily build from plans and probably do a much MUCH better job. Kits are almost always a compromise and don't measure up to most scratch built projects.

Mustang51 -> The next Top Flite Giant Scale Warbird (3/9/2003 6:15:47 AM)

JDHammer... I agree. The 163 is a kool airplane. BUT!!! yea, there's a "but".
There are already a few kits on the market for the 163. You have to admit that it's not a real popular airplane.(or you would see more of them at the meets).
Point being... Manufacturers produce their kits according to "popularity" and what they will sell.

I can't remember the name of the 163 kit manufacturer.
If you are interested, I will do the research and let you know.

Strike that I found it...
Companies name is... R\C MODEL AIRPLANES.
Phone # is... 721-398-4417

There are two different sizes...of which I can't remember.
Both have glass fuselages and built up wings.
I saw 1 fly and it flies great. Used a 120 sized motor. Even dropped the trolley after take-off.

daywalker-RCU -> The next Top Flite Giant Scale Warbird (3/9/2003 6:52:26 AM)

I would like to see them kit a Skyraider or Hurricane. As far as building from plans over a kit, I for one am scared off by lack of photos and directions. I can build a kit using plans, but building an entire plane from drawings alone kinda' scares me.
Just my $.02 worth.

Thanks Mustang51, I agree that the Me163 will not be the next Top Flite Giant Scaler. If there are any fans out there, however, here is a great website that covers the models and the full scale history- Me 163 Komet

Scalebuff -> The next Top Flite Giant Scale Warbird (3/9/2003 7:13:11 AM)

While on the topic does anyone know were i could snatch a scale plan of a mosquito?? iv looked around but no sutch look?..

im have just started my latest project of a "FOKKER DVII" (from scratch) so it will be a while before im ready for the mozzy but i would sure love to add this bird to my hanger :)

FrankRC1 -> The next Top Flite Giant Scale Warbird (3/9/2003 7:33:58 AM)

I would like to see a Hawker Typhoon WWII

Here's one source-Mosquito Plan

G.F. Reid -> The next Top Flite Giant Scale Warbird (3/9/2003 11:20:11 AM)

Gizz, Brian Taylor (your side of the pond) has plans a parts for a Mosquito in two different sizes. Short kits are available, scale spinners, retracts the works. Nobody outdoes Brian Taylor in the fidelity to scale department.
If you can't find info on Taylor, do a search for Bob Holman. He's the stateside distributer for Taylors plans and short kits.
Oops...didn't bother to check the link above.. :o

Ram-bro -> Scratch Building (3/9/2003 12:09:15 PM)

The question is always brought up about why we don't scratch build? WellI can't speak for everyone else but here are my reasons. I don't have the tools to cut out the parts . I don't have the time ...especially when ARFs are every where. The cost is much more than a same size kit with all the engineering done for you. Ithink that sums it up.......cost, time and setup. The benefits or the reasons why i would build a scratch build....One of a kind projects, pride of being different ( maybe the same ) ......I can't think of anything else. The reason why I said twins would be a hard sell is the complexity, cost and skill level invoved with building and flying one. The DC 3 is unique in that it was both popular and a naturally stable flyer in fact the dehidral in the model was reduced from the fullscale airplane. P38s and Mosquitoes are both beautiful and popular planes but challenging in their own ways. And acourse that shrinks the market for them. How many DC3 have you seen at your favorite flying spot? My choices again are the Skyraider, Machi 202, something japanese, nothing French.......just my .02 worth :rainfro:

Ram-bro -> my idea #1 (3/9/2003 12:11:33 PM)

this would be a sure fire best seller if the manufactures got together......and my #1 choice.......F4F Wildcat.........any takers? :D

G.F. Reid -> The next Top Flite Giant Scale Warbird (3/9/2003 12:20:09 PM)

The F4F would be a lot more popular if the retracts weren't $800 a pair. If not for that, I'd love to have one.
BTW, I agree with some of what you say about scratchbuilding but I don't think it's more expensive than kit building. I think it's a bit cheaper in fact....if you don't place a dollar value on the extra time spent.

grahamd1 -> The next Top Flite Giant Scale Warbird (3/9/2003 2:37:15 PM)

Giz both Traplet (http://www.traplet.com) and rcm&e (http://www.modelflying.co.uk/pages/index.cgi) have the mossie plans. So does Brain Taylor (have a look in RCSI).

My money is still on the mossie, and yes I think the Robart DC-3 retracts could work.

rc34074 -> The next Top Flite Giant Scale Warbird (3/9/2003 3:17:28 PM)

i would think that their next move will be to come out with arf versions of their giant scale warbirds. this wil probably be both the p47 and the p51.

but as to what next plane i would like to see i would like a mark IX spitfire, or an f6f hellcat. the spitfire is very well known and they seem to fly well. the biggest concern for most modelers with either plane would be the gear are kind of close together so ground handling would take some care. but they would be very popular. the hellcat would have lots of foom in the cowl for the engine.

LORD_RC -> The next Top Flite Giant Scale Warbird (3/9/2003 8:42:59 PM)

I would go for a Tempest for sure!
