Guys, (gals) The electronis of these radios are almost all the same. As far as programming goes, read the manual. O.K some manuals are better than others but When all is said and done, Its how it looks and feels in you hands, and how easily identifiable the switches are ( both by feel and sight). If this is what you judge your radio on, than JR wins hands down. I remember the time I picked up a JR radio for the first time. Nobody told me about the "FEEL" of JR's. I made my own conclusions and said WOW! that feels nice. Airtronics and futabas feel the same. JR does not. although I strongly reccomend JR, I have and also use a Futaba 6 channel, an Airtonics 6 channel pcm and Hitec car radios as well as my JR 783. GO figure. MAD out

Interesting how we're comparing versions of radios 'across the years'. Sure the latest FU taba radio has more features than the older model JR radios....

My 10 year old JR PCM10 far outshines my buddies 3 year old FU taba 8UH. AND my old JR radio has had model naming, graphical curves, touch screen programming etc. etc. for over 10 years....

Staunch_JR_User here. 10X Aero, 10X Heli.

I do have a Stylus as well - for my sailplanes. Metal-cased transmitters get heavy after an hour or so of constant flight.

I fly JR. The latest I own is the JR10X with digitals. I still have my last four older JR sets. All in perfect conditiion. I switched to JR when Kraft started going downhill. One of my sons is useing JR and the other son is useing Futaba. All three on Mode-1 and all are happy with their equipment.

Look at it like this:

Futaba 6XAS vs. JR 652 Futaba Wins
Futaba 9CAP vs. JR 8103 Futaba Wins

These are my personal experiences I've had. I have not had the higher end systems to compare the 2, like the 10X vs. 9Z(Also never had a Multiplex to comment on that one either. Daz...

And it says that Americans are still having a cultural love affair with chrome!

There are many factors involved, such as pricing, glitziness, herd mentality and so on. The biggest selling cars in the UK consistently come bottom of the JD Power satisfaction survey but people still buy them because no-one laughs at you if you have a Ford Escort even if it is much less reliable and a worse drive than anything else.

The average human hates to stand out from the crowd and would far rather own the worst but most popular brand than buy an unpopular one that works and have people point at them! I'm not saying anything is wrong with Futaba, I'm saying be very careful about deducing anything from a poll. It is instinctive to buy what most people have so that you can be just like them, and if most people have Futaba, most people will buy Futaba for just that reason, so most people have Futaba, so most people buy Futaba, so........ on and on! Most people have MS Windows even though there are supposedly much better OSs. Few people will take the risk of standing out from the crowd. Just ask the Germans who voted Hitler into power, polls don't always choose the best!

This poll on continental Europe would produce a very different result with major placings from brands not even included in this poll. In the UK Futaba/JR would still be in the lead but Hitec would be lucky to get 1 vote in a thousand. It also depends on local conditions, my local shop now sells more Multiplex than it sells 8U, 9C, 9ZAP, 3810 and PCM10 (and all Hitec) all added together! Everyone who has bought Mpx from them is an experienced Futaba/JR user who needed a better Tx, but not one of the Futaba/JR users is an ex Mpx user. Multiplex is still in the minority but the change to Mpx always seems to be one-way traffic: once people have had it, it is almost unheard of to go back to Futaba/JR so the Mpx numbers are growing and for some reason on Sunday mornings my club looks like an exclusive Mpx club.

We still use all our Futaba/JR airborne packs, it is the Multiplex Tx that are so so good. Of course you need to be thick skinned to put up with the comments about the funny green box from all the Futaba/JR users who think a Tx is primarily a piece of fashion jewellery for men, but once we show them what we can do and how easy it is, they turn greener than our Multiplex Txs!

Or Harry, maybe its just because they work the best???
it is the Multiplex Tx that are so so good
If they were soooo good as you say then everyone in the world would be using them and they would have huge marketing like the other companies do, and they would be getting used in F3A, F3C, F3D etc etc which they do not.

The poll isnt really speaking that loud, with JR and futaba so close, its clear that the two are the best so far. Or most popular anyway. Besides, its just personal opinions here.

Not really.

I'd be willing to bet that 30% of the modelers reading this got their start in R/C with gear from the GP conglomerate. Who just happens to distribute Futaba gear.

People tend to continue using the brand they started with.

Like we all bought Betamax rather than VHS? Like everyone in the world owns a Lexus? Prior to VW taking over Skoda, Skoda were awful but people still bought more of them than they did Lexus. There is far more involved in sales volume than quality, in fact often quality is the last thing people will pay for. Just look at the people who buy VMAR planes.

As I said, I am not claiming there is anything wrong with Futaba quality, I am saying that number of sales has little to do with quality and tells you far more about advertising, promotion, image and herd mentality than it does about quality. The best seller may also be the best quality but that is usually just coincidence.

Or possibly in this case it has everything to do with quality.

As I said before, multiple world championship and TOC etc etc pilots would not use them if they were not quality products, seems to me that people buy them because they have a reputation of reliable and quality performance. Many, many of those fliers are from Europe, soooo how would you explain that one?

hey..... chrome is damn sexy you know

I honestly dont see any advantage one radio has over the other...

everytime I see a new radio I go over and am like "oh wow thats cool".. someone else brings one I'm like " oh wow thats cool" I go back to mine and am like "oh wow thats cool".

as you can see i dont have a long attention span

they all have really good features that I probably will never use (**** do I need triple rates on my pizza box flyer for) they all have shiney bits to distract you from flying ("oh wow thats cool .... crash.. DOH!).

polls prove nothing.
"I heard this guy had trouble with..." proves nothing
"I had 264 fut radios and they sucked..." proves nothing
"jr has this feature and hitech dont..." proves nothing

use what you want... be thankful you have a choice... be thankful for this hobby... be thankful that microsoft doesn't make them ("oh sh!! blue screen"...crash... "DOH!"
and most importantly.... have fun ...or else
