Purchased kit 3y ago w/ST.51 engine. After mounting engine it sets cocked on firewal by about the same amount the plans told me to cut off one side of fuse. Also the crank doesn't seem to be long enough. Had to cut back cowl but now carb is smashed into front of cowl. Motor doesn't have rear mount needle and I think needle will also look goofy. I don't know if Great Plane recomended this motor or Tower did but something is wrong. Ant sugestions anyone?

lonvis,

Your model has right thrust built into it to correct for the tendency of the engine to pull the model to the left.

You'll need to trim the cowl as necessary to clear the cylinder, muffler and carb. Add an extension wire to the needle valve and have it exit the cowl through a small hole.

The work you're going through to fit the cowl over the engine is something you'd have to do with any engine you put in the plane. The size and shape of the cutouts will vary, though, depending upon the engine used.
