Hello all, I am going to be programing my transmitter real soon (when the servo's come in) and I am having some troubles understanding the manual. (Not written for a Beginner)

I know this thing has to be capable of restricting the servo movement for Elevator / Rudder / Aelerons.

The only thing I could find was changing the percentage of throw toward the middle of the stick vs fully extended.

What settings would I change to make the Servo's not travel as far? I am thinking this has something to do with "Dual Rate" but I dont understand what Dual Rate actually is. It seams that at the flip of a switch you can have your controls change how far the servo's travel? like One setting is Limited Control and then you flip a switch and you have Lots of control.

If anyone could put this into beginner terms that would be just awesome. Polk's needs a Tracker III for Dummies. This book seams to be over my head on alot of things. There isnt even a Glossary of Terms anywhere?

I understand this radio system is far overkill for my 4 channel training needs but as I understand it this radio should be able to take me on through my trainer models into more advanced model planes.

The travel adjustments are on a program called EPA Rate Press the up and down buttons at the same time and then the up button untill you get to EPA RATE then use the INC button until you get to the surface you want to change then the + or - button to set the distance

First off, if you're just learning, and you plan on using a buddy box with an instructor, set up the airplane mechanically using the control linkages. DO NOT use any of the programming features to change servo throws or centers or anything. The reason is that when you transfer control to a buddy box, all that programming does NOT transfer. So the instructor winds up with limited throws, and the student on the buddy box has 100% linear throws, which is not what you want. Now, if you have 2 comptuer radios, and can program the student's box to have less throw than the instructor, great, otherwise, stay away from the programming for now.

On the other hand, if you're learning on your own, that's another issue.

Ok, to limit the servo's travel you want EPA, which stands for "end point adjustment". You have "dual rates" figured out, in-flight ability to change control throws. Often used to have low throws for most flying and higher throws for acrobatics or other things. You shouldn't use dual rates for a while, nothing like crashing because you couldn't control the plane on high rate, and couldn't find the switch before the plane found the ground.

If you are learning on your own, consider using 25-35% expo to soften the center of the control throw, it will make the plane easier to fly (a little). That's negative expo, so between -25% and -35%.

Thanks Albert.S!

Now is dual rate where it will change all that at the flip of a switch? Like go from limited control to full control?

Sorry about that. I didnt see your post before I responded to Alber.S.

I appreciate the explanation and that makes alot more sense now. I hate to ask yet another question but is there anyway I can get you to explain what you mean by "25-35% expo to soften the center of the control throw" What is this effecting? How the servo reacts to the centering of the TX stick? I know thats probably wrong but thats my newbie nature to venture and take a guess.

Anyways on the learning on your own thing.. I have a HobbyZone SuperCub I have been flying for a little while now. I fly at a park with a bunch of other electric flyers. I figured if I can do as much research online as possible i wouldnt have to bug them with simple questions. The more eductated I am when I get to them the better off I am. (Trying to use the internet for all its worth here)

Thanks again for all your time and explaining this stuff to me. I really appreciate it and I am sure the guys at the field will too!

Expo changes the way the servo moves in response to stick movement. With 0% expo, the servo response is linear, moving the stick 25% moves the servo 25%, moving the servo 50% moves the servo 50%, and so on.

With some non-zero expo, the servo response is on a curve. Center is still center, and full throw is still 100% servo movement, but 50% of stick movement will be less than 50% of servo travel. This makes the first bit of stick movement result in a smaller amount of servo movement, which can make the plane feel less twitchy, more smooth, in the air.

I don't know if there is a FAQ, but you can play with it some and it's not hard to figure it out. The short version is that a P-mix is a linear mix, you set the master and slave channels, and the %, and when the master channel moves, the slave moves the set % as well. With P-mixes, if the master has a trim lever, the slave responds to the trim as well.

An S-mix is basically the same, but with no trim, and with two % values, one for each half of travel, so you could mix "up" elevator with left rudder and "up" elevator with right rudder.
