I bought a 1.00 Jett with in-cowl muffler several weeks ago, set it up on my test stand and broke it in. I then installed the intended prop, a 12X9 APC, and it would only turn 11,400 RPM with Morgan 15% fuel. Is this considered normal RPM? If not, what should I do next?

Hi Arthur,

The turbo-jett muffler is going to run at lower rpm, but it will provide some additional torque.

11,400 on a 12x9 is pretty good. With some time on it, you can expect closer 12,000 on the ground. You may want to get in the first few flights with a bit lighter prop, say a 12x8 just to keep the engine happy the first few flights.

Get a few runs/flights on the engine, then fly with the 12x9, and subsequently try a heavier 12" prop ---- something along the lines of 12x10 or maybe even 12x11. You will get the speed out of the plane that way.

The turbo-jett you received with the engine is going to work best around 11,000-12,000 - so loading it down is ok, and letting it turn up a bit higher is ok too (also the reason the engine easily settles in around that 11,400 mark you noted)

Bob
