All,
Andy (Budgetdude) and I are considering holding an IMAC contest next summer, although no dates have been discussed. The purpose of this post is to gauge interest level and determine if we should proceed. If interest is low we may decide to abandon the idea.

Andy recently spoke with our club president, who did not seem averse to the idea. Our plan, if we move forward, is to formalize the proposal and present it at our next club meeting, scheduled in October.

The reasons that we would like to do this are twofold;

We want to provide a fun, competitive contest for IMAC members that will make you all want to return.
We are looking to reinvigorate the “Aerobatic Scene” in Minnesota. As quite a few of you North Central guys know, Andy and I are really the only current, active IMAC participants, but the interest seems to be growing. By holding a local contest we think several new people will jump on the IMAC bandwagon with us and get this thing going. Additionally, there are several “retired” Scale Aerobatics guys who may be lured back to the competitive side of the hobby.

We are looking to have the contest at our local field, Tri-Valley, in Rosemount, Minnesota. It’s got a great 600 ft asphalt runway, with a large overflight area that is mostly bean field. There has also been camping onsite in the past although there are no hook-ups.

We plan on having a fairly standard AMA sanctioned IMAC event, Freestyle included, with contestant judging.

Our site is also located within a roughly 45 minute drive of the Mall of America, Waterpark of America, Canterbury Downs (Horse Racing), and Valley Fair (Amusement Park), not to mention all of the hotels and restaurants, so it would make a good family destination for those inclined.

For you local guys: Andy and I are also looking to get anyone interested in IMAC together on a regular basis for some flying, contest prep, etc.

Let us know what you all think, and if you would be willing to make the trip, assuming no scheduling conflicts, of course.

Jason

Sounds like agood idea...Im from northern Iowa and the drive wouldn't be that fare for me. You might want to start a pole with this post to answer your popularity questions.

I thought I would keep anyone watching updated, some real progress has been made on the road to getting a contest in Minnesota. Jason has done alot of planning and legwork to help make this happen. This Sunday we are meeting with the club's board members and will be officially proposing our contest. The meeting is at 7pm at the field. We will hopefully have a date picked by sunday night.

I just saw this thread.

I'm just getting back into flying and I'd love to be involved with an event next summer. I'm a noob, (Basic) but I love to compete. I can also volunteer some time to help put it on.

Put my name and Email on the lsit and keep me posted.

Allright Everyone,
The Inaugural Twin Cities IMAC Classic is scheduled for July 19-20, 2008! Andy and I are hoping that you all can attend, this promises to be a great event with Basic -> Unlimited being offered, as well as a Saturday night Freestyle event, and concessions.

You can already pre-register for the event on the IMAC website www.mini-iac.com!

Looking forward to seeing you all there.

Jason

Jason, count me in on all of it. The contest, the pre contest get togethers, etc. We have already talked via e-mail, but I just wanted to add my support here also. I look forward to flying with you, and possibly running with you guys to some of the out of state stuff. Although I will only be basic, I expect it to be loads of fun!!!!

Thanks,
Mike Flander

I am looking to start a little wednesday night sim practice session for those who are interested. I have a place where we can have a projector on wall, fly the G2 sim, and practice and heckle the new sequences. For those that dont know there is a very good IMAC plane out for G2(Courtesy of Wayne Geffon). This will be a good oppertunity to practice, take a look at current builds going on, or just talk how badass were gonna be next spring. Let me know what you think!!
