I am covering my Airplane with Worldtex. This stuff is great to work with. I would like to know what spray can paint can i use on top of this covering.Does it have to be primed first? Can i use Rustoleum or Krylon.Should the overlapping seams be sealed with anything before applying paint?Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

I believe that Worldtex is identical to Colortex and Solartex. I use lots of Solartex (from BalsaUSA) and I agree that it goes on much better than any of the films. I've used all kinds of paint with no problems. My favorite (no longer available) was Hobby Poxy from Pettit but I've also used Krylon, cheap Walmart spray paints, Rustoleum etc. with good luck on my gasoline powered planes. I'm not so sure they would all work with glow fuel powered planes though, especially the Krylon. I did not have to use primer on any of them.

Tony,
Krylon will look great, but after about 1 season, it will be ruined. Glow fuel will make it gummy and change it's color a bit. I have sprayed Polyurethane over Krylon with good results though.

I just bought the H9 1/4 scale Super Cub that is covered with Red on White Worldtex covering. It will be powered with a G-38 gasser. Do I need to put some sort of seal coat on this beautiful airplane to waterproof it? I am planning on float-flying this one. I was also wondering if this material gets dirty easily, shows fingerprints, etc. if it isn't coated with something. How does one clean this type of covering. It looks great now and I would like to keep it that way. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I all white rolls of solartex then paint it with rustoleum. Works very good. You still need to paint the white cause the fabric will get grungy after awhile. With paint and a sealer (if you want, but not really necessary) it cleans pretty good with your standard cleaners. You can get a pretty good shiney surface also.

solartex is great stuff. I covered my FokkerD7 about 19 years ago and still look great. As for clear coat, I have seen it yellow. If the white gets dirty I used I cap in spray bottle with Windex. One other note: If you lay white over red, the red will bleed over to the white. I also did my P-6E Hawk and came out great. You can get it in many different. Good luck with your's just my $.02
