Haulin Azz -> Custom Sand Rail/Dune Buggy (7/19/2007 1:38 AM)

I am making a sand rail, but it won't be run on sand because there is none where i am at... It will be ran on dirt, gravel, asphalt, concrete, and in fields. I am using the front end from a traxxas spirit(looks similar to a sand rails), a clod buster rear end, full tube chassis made from 3/16 brake line and welded together with a graphite bottom plate, futaba s3305 servo, fm radio, and a 5700kv mamba system. It is just about finished, still needs a few more hours of work though. I have about 15 hours of work, half a spool of welding wire, and over 150" of 3/16 brake line it this thing. I will load some pics up in just a little bit.[:D] When i load the pics don't laugh please (i am only 15 and this was my first time welding anything all by myself and i designed as i went so it is not the best job out there.[8|]

Nice, custom rules[:D] Lets see some pics!!!

mindwreck -> RE: Custom Sand Rail/Dune Buggy (7/19/2007 1:47 AM)

dang this is going to have a fatty rear end with the clod axle hanging off the back. PICS [:D]

Haulin Azz -> RE: Custom Sand Rail/Dune Buggy (7/19/2007 1:53 AM)

ya it has a wide wide rear end but i will put some wider 2.2 truck front ribs on the front to make the front a bit wider, pics are getting cropped now so in the next few minutes, my welds are huge but i did gring them down but the were huge so it dont look the best.

Haulin Azz -> RE: Custom Sand Rail/Dune Buggy (7/19/2007 2:08 AM)

here are some pics

dirt101 -> RE: Custom Sand Rail/Dune Buggy (7/19/2007 2:15 AM)

Did you make the graphite too?

Haulin Azz -> RE: Custom Sand Rail/Dune Buggy (7/19/2007 2:16 AM)

here are some more of how it looks right now

Takedown -> RE: Custom Sand Rail/Dune Buggy (7/19/2007 2:18 AM)

Pretty cool![sm=thumbs_up.gif]

Haulin Azz -> RE: Custom Sand Rail/Dune Buggy (7/19/2007 2:18 AM)

no, it was an old bolink or parma chassis that was just layin around.[;)]

Haulin Azz -> RE: Custom Sand Rail/Dune Buggy (7/19/2007 2:19 AM)

thanks, it will be real cool with the 5700kv mamba!![:-]

Haulin Azz -> RE: Custom Sand Rail/Dune Buggy (7/19/2007 2:28 AM)

ya that is pretty sweet! I hope this will be good with the mamba lol!![:D]

mindwreck -> RE: Custom Sand Rail/Dune Buggy (7/19/2007 4:16 AM)

that is pretty sweet. i like the solid rear axle suspension setup you made there. might i suggest angling the shocks a bit to get more travel because im pretty sure its you going to be launching that thing

again. that is one fatty rear end.[:D] haha

webdr -> RE: Custom Sand Rail/Dune Buggy (7/19/2007 4:45 AM)

It looks awesome but those are some serious booger welds! Hit that frame with a sander.... it would make all the difference in a finished look.

Haulin Azz -> RE: Custom Sand Rail/Dune Buggy (7/19/2007 7:18 AM)

ya i will get wheels to make the width look better front to rear. i have sanded it for over an hour with a dremel at 10k rpm and took off alot, it will stay like that for a little while. Ya i thnk i might angle the shocks some later on also. I hope the rear frame shock mounts hold on some big launches.... I am thinking about some 2.2 truck ribs in front, and some paddles and somethen else for the rear.

rc monkey -> RE: Custom Sand Rail/Dune Buggy (7/19/2007 5:05 PM)

Looks good. Yeah some 2.2 ribs up front would be sweet. Is that steel?

Haulin Azz -> RE: Custom Sand Rail/Dune Buggy (7/19/2007 5:17 PM)

yep it is steel 3/16 brake line welded together. it is still light amazingly, less then half the weight of an e-savage.

TIGER76 -> RE: Custom Sand Rail/Dune Buggy (7/19/2007 5:30 PM)

[X(]looks good m8 keep up the good work cant wait to see it shift in a vid soon [:D][:D]

Haulin Azz -> RE: Custom Sand Rail/Dune Buggy (7/19/2007 5:38 PM)

thanks, once i have some extra dough i will be making a drag car with a tamiya toureg rear solid axle, emaxx tranny for two speed shifting, a full tube chassis, straight tube front axle(it is going to be a 41 willys gasser), and dual engines.

castandiello -> RE: Custom Sand Rail/Dune Buggy (11/29/2010 9:02 AM)

My sandrail version. Built from an XTM xcellerator platform, Himoto rollcage, Ofna pirate 125cc fuel tank, HPI header, Revo exhaust, Traxxas wheels and Proline tires.
