Sorry had no idea it was that much more money, as I say I haven't found a UK distributor yet so had nothing to compare it with.
The people who know say it's much better than the HB or the pic, there is another thread where a guy who has both says the Corona is much better.
My experience of the HB is that it seems flimsy and tempramental, will buy a Corona for the winter months as soon as I can find a UK distributor.

SpeedTriple,

I guarantee you are not going to find a UK distributor for the Corona. Our nearest is in Austria. I got my kit in the States nad have bought parts from both the States a couple of times and Austria once.

It really is the truly perfect beginners heli!

However, as it's not readily available in the UK (or Europe really) an alternative might be to bite the bullet and look straight at getting a Robbe Eolo. I know it's collective pitch and not as durable as a Corona but I'm told it's a really smooth flyer great for a beginner and I'm just awaiting delivery of mine to find out!

When you look at how much even a Hummingbird "combo" is going to cost I'd have thought the money would be better spent putting it towards a "real" model heli like the Eolo and Ian at www.e-flight.co.uk has some GREAT deals on it at the moment. Also all the major heli suppliers in the UK have the entire range of spare parts. As long as you already have a heli radio, charger and batteries then you can get a brushless Eolo in the air for around the £400 mark.

Here's a little news that might influence your decision. Looks like someone is finally working on a cp mod for the Corona!! Choppahedz , better yet, the person working on it used to work for Lite Machines too and will even working with Lite Machines about blades etc. They said that the eta is around Christmas time. Plus they're also making other neat upgrades, carbon frames and aluminum goodies, the Corona's are gonna be baaaad! I already plan on picking me up a Corona again in a couple of weeks Look out Eolo!

BTW, there's a Helluva deal on a brushless Corona package over on Ezone, looks as to be in fine shape, totally ready to fly and even includes 2 battery packs!!!!!!!! the guy is asking only $500 shipped!!...

bettery hurry, deals like that don't come http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=147932&highlight=corona+for+salearound too often...

Got my Futaba 8U Super this morning.
Got the HB hovering, albeit shakily, but still hovering.

All in all a good day really.
Just waiting for the battery to recharge to have another attempt at wiping out some furniture.

Once the problems are sorted it ain't such a bad little toy, just a couple of frustrating days fiddling, now all seems good.

Still have the odd occasional glitch where the servos go mad and the motor runs uncontrollably, have found the source of that problem yet but it seems to be happening less frequently.

Does anyone know if there is a problem using a GWS Tx crystal in a Futaba Tx?
That's what the shop I bought the HB from thinks is the problem, but as an electronics engineer, as crystal is a crystal, providing they're the same frequency (which they are)

Rich.

Wright Flyer,
thanks for the reply, I'll give up looking :-)

Going to Thailand in a few weeks, have found a supplier there, might just pick one up and fly it around the beach on my two month holiday.
What could be more perfect than the paradise of Thailand with a little Corona to play with on the beach )

astro,
Mmmm CP on the Corona, nice, very nice.

I wonder why these companies don't offer these mods themselves, seems like such a logical step, I read something on HeliHobby about a CP mod for the HB, ISTR it was lots of $$'s tho

i have bought a FEDA dragonfly, which i really know nothing about, i've been practicing on one of these simulators

I have 2 questions

1. is the dragonfly a good mini heli?
2. are the simulators very similar to real flight characteristics?

i hope i dont run into the problems of balancing blades and all that

thanks

The Dragonfly is the same as a Hummingbird, I've had one from July - gone through 2 x main rotors & 2 x tail rotors, but my tail motor has just burnt out!

That said, it's great fun!

lucken,

3D (CP) helis will fly upside down, fixed pitch (FP) helis will not (at least not for very long).

When inverted with a 3D heli, you reverse the pitch on the main rotor so that the "prop wash" now "blows" out the top of the main rotor instead of the bottom, keeping it airborne (for lack of a better explanation).

With a fixed pitch (FP) heli, the blade pitch cannot be changed or reversed, so if you get inverted and try to stay that way, it will force itself into the ground ... inverted.

Hope this clears things up a little.

Guys,

A newbie may get the wrong impression reading this thread. There is nothing bad about the HB, the problems you had are true of ALL micro helis at this time.
I suggest you visit here: http://ehbg.rchomepage.com/
The Electric Helicopters Beginners Guide (EHBG) is the best resource to start with, it will answer most of your questions and provide a starting point.
Find Radds "learn to fly a heli" lessons too. You may not follow it all but you should learn the right sequence of skills and attitude.
Good luck!
