There's a simple way for him to prove his claims without going to the trouble of a dyno except he has to do a run first without the mod to get the baseline figures. Fit a high quality propellor of a size that allows around 20,000 revs then run it on the test stand noting the actual revs and the time it takes to drain the tank. Do the mod then use the same prop and run it again. Any difference in revs will show exactly how much power is lost (or gained ) and the run time gives the difference in fuel consumption.

As a for instance, if the unmodded engine turned a steady 21,500 revs and the modded engine turned 20,500 revs then it would have 86.7% of the original HP. Run times on the same tank of fuel are self explanatory.

Hey everyone, i just wanted to comment on this piston sleeve mod....Here is something to think about, is it possible that the engine builders and nitro fuel makers want your nitro vehicle to get bad gas mileage. Cause if you think about all the people that are into nitro rc's {i personally have 4} having twice the fun with half the fuel, thats a big hit to the over priced nitro fuel business.

And as for me I have a fairly new .15 I'll try this on, I also have a video camera...I'll let u know

I'm sure good fuel economy is important to the engine manufacturers. I bet that if they could make a race .21 go 18 mins on a tank they would. Every racer would use it. Less pitstops = good in racing.

yea...even if they charge $500 for the engine if it gets 18mins run time then they wont be able to make enuff of them

I don't think this was intended to be a "racing" mod, more like just use less fuel when you bash. I do all my bashing at the track, less mailboxes and curbs to break stuff, and the jumping is fun. I will race soon, but I just don't have the time to dedicate to it now, and I am still learning a lot. I just learned about BDC when engine cools to extend engine life. If the mod works, great. If it doesn't, oh well, My other 21 engine was on its way out anyways. I hope to have a working buggy this weekend with the modded SH 21 engine at the track to take some timed runs, or just count laps. Even if you do race and just want to do some practice, it would be great to be able to do 15-20 minutes per tank.

Long time no see. Since the last post I stripped the button head on the SH and put the vertex 21 in some drawer... oh well. I had a nother incident at the track last week that may have killed my other 21, I ended up using my truggy engine on the 7 today. The Toki did not want to run right, so in goes the SH with the SPI mod, out comes the pinchless Toki. I ordered a button head a few weeks back, had to install that first. Went out on the street this afternoon and had somewhat good results. I spent a good while trying to find a tune, it seems to be backwards after the mod. Theres a rich to lean to rich cycle with the needles, and that crazy low idle. Its like starter box slow for a long time. I finally got a tune at about 3 1/2 HSN and 2 1/2 LSN. The LSN is lean because it wants to load up real quick when you slow down and bog a bit on take off, by a bit I mean a lot. I did the "8 second" LSN adjustment and ended up there. I got a few high speed passes done but the engine seemed hot, the temp gun was all the way inside the house so I finished the tank and went in. Total I was outside 57 minutes and started the buggy about 20 times after about a 50 foot or so walk. It had the quits towards the end so I think the plug is spent, been in there a few months. I'll try some more tomorrow, hopefully on the track if no rain, and see how it goes.

Obviously people are having a hard time believing this claim, with good reason to IMO. For god's sake just make a video of your buggy running 15 min in race trim and then no one can dispute you. Until then you can claim all you like. Without proof its worthless.

My engine is still running strong and I am happy with the mod. It is sensative to exhaust leaks so it is very important to have a good seal. I can also tell you that glow plug life is greatly extended! I have since been going for max power mods including some experimenting with crank fans, crank induction screws, and extensive timing changes.

I will be down for a while due to probable change of jobs, relocation, and training. I will get back to SPI after that.

What in the world is a crank induction screw?

Myself, I just run a swaybardifferentiallock on the crank pin bevel to induce more sub port piston swirl. Getting 3 hours on a tank now.

Well, what do you call something that is new and not tried?

Ok, smart guy........ If you have ever seen a screw blower or understand rifling you may be able to figure it out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you have ever seen a fan on an alternator you may also be able to figure it out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you find these in your BOOK please do tell me the proper naming,,,,,, OR,,,,,,,, suggest a more appropriate name for what I am explaining!

You seem to be quite rude in most of your posts that I have read!

I have some advice for you and my opinion as to your mods working or not doesn't matter.

1. Believe in yourself. If you are right it doesn't matter if the whole world believes you or not. Go for your dream and don't falter. If you pursue it to the end and are wrong then you can take pleasure in knowing that you proved it. Don't give up.

2. Once you embark on an idea that flys in the face of the norm, be prepared for negativity. Again, don't give up.

3. To finalize your project, no matter what it is, know that you will have to provide factual proof. Your word counts for a lot but it's not aleays enough, Factual proof is near impossible to dispute.

4. If you can not provide factual proof, be prepared for ridicule.

With this said I really hope you can provide pics and other proof that will settle it once and for all.

well i`m no 2T guru but the idea seems good..remember the engine works off ports and back pressure

so that would create a higher pressure in the crank case causing more fuel to to be sucked up to the piston, since when it on the down stroke it has a vacuum and theres pressure in the block from the hole in the piston....right????

atlest thats what i seems like to me
