I have a couple of OS .55s. Great engines. Easy starting, reliable, powerful.

I've got mine in a Hangar 9 T-34 Mentor running a 10X8 APC prop and even with the bulbous canopy, I can get it clock 104-109 on the radar gun. I've also got it mounted in my NitroPlanes BobCat with an 11X7 APC pusher prop. It has fixed gear so the best I ever got out of it is 94 on the radar gun (but that was with the smaller 10X8 Pusher prop. You can see the radar gun passes posted here:

I've just mounted a pair on a TopFlite B-25. Haven't flown it yet but ran them in on 13x6 (MA)props. Put about 1 1/2 gallons through each and they settled in at about 9800 RPM. That's on a 50 degree day, 20% humidity and @ 5200 ft. 15% nitro fuel. Idle @ 1950 and transition was great after setting the low speed needle.....leaned it a bit.

Most pleasing aspect was that they run almost identically +/- 50rpm.

Great thread. I love my .55ax. I had it on a Carl Goldberg .40 profile Yak for 2 seasons and then plunked it hard into the ground on a low hover shattering a wing. I pulled it off and went looking for a plane to put it in. I wish I would have foound this thread about a month ago. I decided on a Hanger 9 Funtana X 50. I was going to go with the Showtime but decided it might be a little too heavy for the .55. Sounds like you guys are having good results with the .55 showtime combo.

The Funtana is about a pound less than the showtime. I only have 2 flights on it so far, but I am very happy with the way it flies. I am going to reinforce the landing gear before I take it out again. I have the Funtana X 100 with a Saito 1.25 and love that plane. I am hoping for similar performance. So far it seems that I will get what I want.

As I read earlier people are using OS "F" plugs on thier 55AX.

Is it safe to try this and has anyone had any reports on how long they have been running them and the results?

OS "F" plugs work great. It will not harm the engine, and they give a smooth transition and they hold heat well. Personally, though, just use an A3 it's cheaper, and the results will be similar.

Thanks OK2Fly [)]

I have a F plug in the field box so I'll give it a go. Otherwise next time I'm at the HS I'll pick up a couple of A3s

Just completed an engine swap in one of my GP Easy Sport modelschanged out an MVVS that's been in there since '00 and in the predecessor of this one, so I felt it was time for a change. Bolt holes and mounting beam spacing were the same, but because of the OS's shorter prop shaft, still had to drill new holes. Also had to carve out a bit of clearance for the throttle arm. A very straight forward swap. OS started on first flip and needed a bit of low end leaning and eventually two clicks of lean on the needle. When the rain quits and the field dries, I'll fly it. Gustof (my other Easy Sport has a ST .61 in itanother great engine)

I have a 55AX on an Lanier Mariner Mk II, and it's really peppy. I have another one NIB that's going to go on a Mikulasko Arrow when it's finished.

For those of you who have the Showtime/ 55 AX combo, I've been curious to know how this engine works with this plane when doing ALL-OUT 3D???
