I think Jeff is referring to my Jetmart F-14.....

Jeff, i replied to your PM, sorry but i have sold the Kitty Cat..

DAMN I CANT WAIT TO GET WORKING ON THESE WINGS!! On a side note, i think i have come to grips with reality in regards to the visor- I dont think i am going to have it operable, it has been a pain in the arse just trying to get the two sides aligned right

yea man, no problem....

Ohh.. I may have a lead on a fairly in-expensive YA Twin bug kit.. so if the lead works out, i may be molding some all composite flying surfaces for that kit around the first of the year as well... Can we say leading edge flaps

Oh yeah, i scaled my vertical stab plans to the proper dimensions and HOLY CAP is it big!! It is at least the size of a 1/8th scale f-16 wing panel...pretty sure bigger (it has been a while since i have owned both of my TJ F-16's)....

OH so when nose it opened, it's called Visor....Hmmm very interesting!. I didn't knew it b4, learned something new today about this configuration about C5s. So does this corresponds to B747Fs also when there noses are opened for cargo loading?....

Sam, it is called "visor" even when it is closed. It is the "textbook nomenclature" for this door straight out of the flight manual, just like the "aft pressure door" or the door that becomes the aft ramp when the aircraft is kneeled and the ramp is brought down....

Alright, i hear ya Nick, like i said i didn't knew about this term 'Visor" applied to nose of C5s.

To me Visor is the retractable wind shield on Concorde for sub-sonic and supersonic cruise configurations and also when nose is drooped on it for cockpit crew's clear vision on takeoffs and landings....

Thanks for this insight, appreciated

Nick,

Can't you tach the visor back on the main fuselage and then go form inside and make lite ply former ring for it and glue it in 1" back from the lip or joint on the visor, then if you leave 1/2" to 3/4" former wall and cut the rest out and add CF tape in "L" shape between former and visor's body, once that is cured i bet it will very stiff and will hold all the positions how they should be and then you can also make some sort of hinge to make visor operable by adding electric gear drives or air actuated....

You can also add series of 3/32" balsa or 1/16th lite ply ring formers so there is no flex left in the visor and it could be handles properly, i mean there will be some weight penalty but on a model of this magnitude little extra weight shouldn't matter as it's not a acrobatic or 3D model.....just couple of thoughts for you. I'm looking for a picture that would show what i mean by adding few lite ring formers in the visor for eliminating flex in it.

Sam

Thanks for the thought Sam! If you can see in the prior posts, i made a ring for the fuse side at the opening, but i put it at the very edge because i wanted a mating surface for the two sides. Your idea sounds pretty slick, i will give it a shot when i get home.

Yeah, we use lining on ours, but half the time they are ripped or missing

It's just as well that you don't make the visor functional. Cause if you did, I think you would also HAVE to make the rear clam-shell doors functional as well so that you can see all the way through. That would be a major pain!!!

This is such an awesome effort!!! Keep up the fantastic work. All us Galaxy lovers are watching!!!

Hell, i was thinking about making the rear ones functional for the sake of being able to "open up" the rear to be able to put my bulkheads and such in there

DO IT!!!!

I've got an idea for a hinge mechanism... just have to figure out exactly how to put it on paper.
