Could someone please tell me that there is not such a rule that :"you can't have an engine turning over 32,000 rpms on the ground, and you can't say your airplane can go over 200 MPH" But only saying your plane is capible of 200mph?

OH an older man in is late 60s told me that " U can't tell people that your going over 200mph Because the AMA dosen't like seeing planes going that fast or w/e." The only limited 200mph rule that I know of only applies to the jets.

I told him that in F3D in USA is held at the AMA this year. If that was a rule, then they couldn't fly here in USA if you had AMA card.

If not an AMA card, you can do what you please if you make your own air field.

If there isn't a rule, could some please send me a link so I can prove to this guy hes wrong.

Thanks,
Kevin

One can hardly provide a link to a rule that does not exist.

Get your "Old Guy" to provide a link to the rule that he says does exist.

You are correct that the 200 MPH rule only applies to Jets. The only other speedlimiting rule falls in to the "experimental" class where prop driven planes over 55 pounds are limited to "80 knots" or 92 MPH and jets are limited to either 200 or 140 MPH depending on pilot experiance

In addition to the general membership manual, there's specialized safety codes for Combat, Racing and Jets...

Not to mention the competition regulations...

dj.. are you referring to the "builder of the model" rule?

From the first paragraph of the RC racing rules - thanks to a buddy of mine that reminded me to read the WHOLE thing! (I added the bold to the existing text, to highlight it)

AMA recognizes four classes of RC Pylon
Racing for US competition. All are intended for
multi-channel RC aircraft powered by
conventional 2-stroke glow engines. The task
consists of an ROG (rise-offground) takeoff (or,
in the case of 1/2A, a hand launch) followed by
left turns around a closed course marked out by
pylons. The builder-of-the-model rule does not
apply.

I wish it did, though..

Denis,

Don't tell me you read that whole document and managed to pick that out... funny. Of course, you neglected the very first paragraph in the racing regulations which clearly read "the builder-of-the-model rule does not apply"...

I only read what I want to. Specifically what suites me and my opinions I knew it didn't apply if for no other reason than Ed hadn't jumped all over it.

I think we need a builder-of-the-engine rule.

as long as it's not a "winder of the rubber band" rule...

So your plane goes over 200mph, what could/would the AMA do about it?

I'm being a bit cynical here- but the AMA would watch in amazement, wouldn't care, wouldn't know.......... we have a similar rule in NZ but it relates only to the recording of the speed over 200mph and the methodology used . We must use electronic timing equipment ie two radarguns, two electronic stopwatchs, etc.......trevor h nz
