Status: offline 		Cyclon offers a discount price on engines that are sold in small batches. I'm not sure yet what that number is, or if they allow mixing and matching. I'll bet that there are enough guys here who want one of these engines to make this group purchase idea worthwhile. I want a .15 and a .061. These engines are made for control line combat and free flight, but they will power a small RC racer type plane with awe inspiring results.

Status: offline 		I'm not sure about how to handle the money, maybe PayPal can be of some help here? Otherwise, I will fund the entire transaction based on the good words of those who sign up, then disburse the engines as the individual purchasers' funds are collected here. Hmm, I think a deposit of $20 per individual is reasonable.....I don't think a deal like this will attract "wannabees" who will back out at the last moment, but $20 shows me that the individual has anted up in good faith..

Status: offline 		When we priced an engine a few months back he was giving a "wholesale" discount for 10 engines of about 13%. The dollar has tanked since then, so I would expect prices to be up.

AJ, the .061 combat engine has its' exhaust stack tilted towards the rear at about 45, it is open exhaust but you could make a slip fit header to slide over the exhaust stack. The .15 combat has the same kind of exhaust and it comes with a tuned "silencer" that looks like a little pear. You would need to run this engine on a sleek RC plane that a 6.5 inch prop can pull around, or else get a FAI combat plane from George Cleveland and hang on tight!!

Dale, Once you get hooked up with one of these, I'll draw up the P-51 SWR and send you plans if you're interested .

I'd like to know what % nitro, and Weight, rpm's, other general info, and roughly a price.
My wasp just isn't cutting it when it comes to performance. Are mufflers available for both.

I have no problem with a deposit.

Status: offline 		I have just attempted to email Alexander Kalmykov directly and his listed email address does not work. Maybe someone else who has had recent success with contacting him can help out here?

Tewitt and others, these engines are high rpm only and require a pressurized fuel system to run. They also need to be carefully matched to the prop and desired airframe or else you will end up with a "Mazerati engine in a dump truck" if you try to power a draggy and heavy model with one.

don`t forget they make the rear exhaust engine that can run a pipe or some kind of muffling device. You might like to ask him if you can mix and match the 061 engines crankcase types too- e.g combat style angled ex and the rear exhaust with round stack for tuned pipe (but with free flight timing as apposed to the speed timed engine)

Status: offline 		JM, I'll ask that of him, but the object of the bulk discount is that machine work is "cheaper by the dozen" as you are well aware of......so it never hurts to ask but I doubt he will go for a mixed batch type discount. The rear exhaust speed engine is a little bit too specialized for general consumption here, but I might expand this venture to the guys who fly speed at Delphi forums.

Status: offline 		Pigg, you can get the "normal" timed 061 engine in the rear exhaust case- which is what I have on order-
If you order 10 engines you can get a decent discount by the look of things: but that info is a bit old.

Yeah I thought the same about the machining setup for the discount- but then from what DG told me, the rear ex and angle ex 061 engines share all the same internals so he may go for it.

Falco, you can run the APC 4.2x4 with no problem or get C/F props from Larry Driskill. I have even run cut down COX props with no trouble.....a 6x4 down to 4.2x4 and it will work great on a clean ship. For draggier applications, like free flight, they run 5.5x2 APC props. GRS models [George Cleveland] imports Russian made FAI combat planes. Larry Driskill has a great 1/2A combat plane at "kittingittogether.com" It takes very little effort to convert from control line to RC.

Hmm... I've been wanting to enlarge the naca0011 taper-wing version of the Sure Shark for a .15 (Psychlon Shark?). I'd need to add some cf here and there to use this (and work on my reflexes):

I have been wanting to see the difference in performance between a Galbreath setup and a stock one. The Galbreath one I have really screams.

Status: offline 		Patrick, if you were to spend an hour with a dremel.......I'll bet you could get that fiberglass and maple crate down to half the original weight, hog it, shave it, hole punch it then just cover it with iron on film. There is probably enough maple there to do 3 planes. Back then I was worried about the GZ tearing away from the plane. Now that doesn't worry me, in fact I think that would look so cooool

Status: offline 		CP, the fiberglass weighs 4oz or so. With a little creative work the whole plane could weigh less than a pound easily in SWR form. The whole batch you sent is sitting on my workbench downstairs. I've been eyeing my VA for it, but a Cyclon would be a much better powerplant.

Status: offline 		I have done some more snooping around. MACA has a bulletin board that I left a message at. There is a guy there who is selling FORA .15s direct from the factory for $190. Also GRS Models is selling the .05 Fora for $140 and the .061 for $150. It might be pretty hard for Cyclon to beat these prices, even with a bulk discount.

Patrick, those glass planes ended up tail heavy with a piped GZ because the pipe itself shifts the CG, plus it hogs space that the battery pack should be taking, so the battery gets stuck way aft, making matters worse. Setting the glass plane up with the angled rear exhaust Cyclon or Fora will be much simpler.
