HI

I'm thinking about building my first 40 % Carden and I have a couple questions. How long is the wait for the kit ( I'm looking at the Extra 330 ) and can I squeeze one into my 1995 tahoe? I have 114" dash to rear door but I am more concerned about the rudder being too tall. With the tail towards the dash, my 35 % extra's rudder barely clears the roof . I can remove the lower part of the folding rear seat to get more room height wise but I fear it will still be too close. If some one could give me a measurement of how tall their rudder is I would really appreciate it. If I can't fit it in the "hoe", I'll have to strap it down too my snowmobile trailer.

You'll have to check with Dennis and Caroline at Carden to find out on the wait but I don't think you'll have to wait too long to get it. If your 35% Extra barely makes it the 40% will probably not fit. I'm out of town now and don't have access to my plans but I'll check on actual dimenstions when I get back on unless someone else does in the meantime.

Excellent plane- beautiful outline.

FYI: I have had the 330 and have a 300 from Carden. The both fly great but I like the 300 better.

Dave

FWIW,

I made mine with a long rudder pin/wire so that the rudder could come off of the fin/vert stab. Then just two 4-40 bolts for the pull-pull and the rudder pin and you are ready to go. The fin fits up front pretty well, even in my SAAB wagon! That being said I use my trailer most of the time but the option is nice.

Thanks for the replies. I thought about the piano hinge on the rudder and I'm amazed that you can get that plane in a Saab wagon ( can you teach my wife how to pack a suitcase?). I might have to look into getting a clamshell top for my trailer. Thanks agian for the help.

Hi,
I just measured mine and it is 30 1/4", from the floor too the tallest point with an RC Blimp graphite version 2 tailwheel. If you need any other measurements let me know.

I actually had some help from Steve Swahn at the time. I also then got a clam shell trailer, an aero-express 12 ft. I am just now buying a bigger trailer to help with my new jet addiction. The aero-express is great for the 40% aerobatic planes, 2 fit easily in the 6X12 and you can fit a third if you need to...I don't know if the guy still makes them. Sadly, I am thinking about parting with mine if the new one works out well...

I have a 540 and 330 (40% both). They are GREAT.

Good luck!

Thanks for the info Dom. Dave, I actually fly at the same field as Steve ( great guy ). If I unscrew 6 bolts, I can remove the front passenger seat and rear fold down so I don't think length wise is an issue. I'm going to check and see if the rudder will fit. Thanks for all the help.

I have 2 friends that get their 40% Carden 330, one in a Ford Explorer and the other in a Honda Pilot, if I am not mistaken. No problems at all other then not seeing good out the passenger door window.

Hi Guys

Thanks agian for the info. I ended up getting a Carden Edge 540 40% kit . I have started a build thread in the Carden support forum so if your interested, check it out. Thanks. Mark.
