hahahahaha you wont believe what i did. I, for some odd reason, had the Rx & Tx screwed up. I guess that'll make things act alittle funny. But with that fixed i'm still having a slight problem with it cogging when i hit the throttle too hard from a dead start. After reading the post about the stock receiver not being any good with these mamba systems, i'm thinking of getting Spektrum DX2. I'm hopping after that my problems will be solved. Next question would be, what is a really good servo for these 1/18 scale trucks? I'm in need of one of those as well. Thanks guys for the help too

well for mini servos for my NT18MT i just use the hitec 85mg's they run about 25-30 and have metal gears ball bearings. or you could get the hitec 81mg that just has metal gears

I use a hs-81mg too. I believe Mini_Me uses a polo digital, which is more expensive but centers better than the 81mg. I can't find a link for it so maybe he can post one for you.

Is this the Servo your talking about? http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXGZU9&P=7. if so i might have to get that. It looks sweet and torque out put is nice for a mini servo. LMK

Is that servo worth $50 or is there something better?

Had a stab at modifying my heli calc for rc car/truck.
Yes another Rollout calculator, can you have too many? maybe.
Still a bit scruffy but it works.

RC Car/Truck Power & Setup Calculator

Having trouble estimating brushed motors so I haven't included any. Normally I would set the efficiency number to 60% to estimate 100% performance, not sure though. Have a play... ideas welcome .

Neat!

Im trying it out. Some of the circumference and rpm data doesn't update when you do the diameter FWIW.

>...data doesn't update when you do the diameter
Yes, if your picking numbers from the browser's history (for say the diameter text edit box) then clicking a history item doesn't generate a 'change' event like entering a fresh number. Gives the appearance of nothing changing, that's another reason for the 'Calculate' button there.

Edit: I just set AUTOCOMPLETE="off" for my form since I can't trap those events easily.

Also you wouldn't expect the motor or wheel RPM to change with tyre diameter unless it were possible to model all the variables of actual motor loading, performance, cell resistance, ESC losses and friction. The best we can do is work the motor RPM from the Kv x Voltage applied / the efficiency % factor and the resulting wheel RPM from the final gear ratio.

Giving my m18t a hard time:

Broke a plastic CVD, not running but whilst tightening the ball diff, testing the slip in my hand when a pin broke off the CVD. even though I have spares I decided to drill a ~1.2 mm hole through the CVD ball joint and dremel cut the back portion of the drill bit to use as a cross pin. Works well .

Had a strange crash the other day. I geared slightly lower for loose dirt/gravel surface and was nearly maxed out over a small BMX bike jump, launched and landed about 10ft later, when the m18t looked like it hit a land mine as the truck abruptly changed direction to vertical jump 6ft in the air! It had contacted the top of a sunken rock on landing, the change in direction was very dramatic and ripped out a chunck off the chassis to the diff housing front lower suspension arm. Checked the 3s TP910 lipo which looks to have taken a shunt in the impact, otherwise still drives ok.

Update info:
Two brushless m18t on 3s 1320mAh ThunderPower 11.1v packs (17A/27A peaks),
both geared for similar top speeds ~35mph

m18t kit Setup1: 8 Amp 2015 2800kv Himaxx ~35g short motor 10A/15A peak ESC, pulls ~10A max (~550g)
m18t kit Setup2: 18Amp Eflight 400 4200Kv 65g long motor 22A/30A peak ESC, pulls ~12A max (carrying +50g)

Pretty big difference in specs, ACTUAL difference in performance? Nothing much to shout about, almost the same head to head runtimes (15-45mins, throttle demand dependant), whatever the demands on average both 9v ESC low voltage cutoffs kick in within 30 secs of each other. The reason we can't get the extra power setup to show it on the road looks to be due to tyre slip limiting the useful power level. Maybe we would see more of a difference on carpet???
As it goes for 'our truck requirements', light weight cheaper sub 11v*10A setup performs adequately, no real need to get the more expensive weighty hungry stuff in trucks this size.

Now I've moved the power system from m18t Setup2 into an almost new RTR M18MT 630g geared to ~30mph 11.1v 4200Kv using gearing 54T/12T with 70mm tyres... yet to thrash. Looks great and should be extra good fun bashing .

Brushless is great at speed but stick to brushed for any slow climbing where the brushless motors just cog.

Oh wow, it's just raining X-ray's today!

Just acquired another give away used m18t deal with 3 body shells, brushless 3s 1320mAh pack and a bucket of spares. Ali CVDs, the down side is 2 of which are cheap Asian Atomics blue (poor sloppy copies) along with 2 Atomic blue hub blocks. All added to my own bucket of bits, m18t basher and m18t Pro minter!

After all my bashing to date I can say that the most common component I'm breaking is the 'composite suspension block' (I call hub blocks), tie bar end hoops (same as steering and shock ends), the odd front wishbone and the stock tires but any harder compounds just don't grip on street under brushless 3s demands. Using ali CVDs but won't be paying high prices for ali suspension blocks as that will only transfer the damage to another component and the hub blocks are quick and easy to change, so that's the preferred fuse point for me.

Nice! make sure to keep us posted on your build.

can you fill me in on which lipo and servo you plan to use? I take it you are not going to get another polo 4?

I am assembling an M18T from the kit, and was wondering if anyone else has re-lubricated both differentials. I only ask because my factory assembled ones don't feel or look like there is any lube in them, but a call to RCAmerica revealed that only a very thin lube is used in the factory assembly.

Do most people leave them as is, with respect to the lube?

Here's another one that got me. Cogging due to weak brushless motor!

My slow setup M18MT was using a small 8A Himaxx 2015 2800Kv motor low geared 54T/9T with softer 3sTP910mAh (~15mph). After a few packs I started to get some chugging when changing direction rapidly... got worse near the end of the pack. So I swapped to a stronger 3sTP1320mAh pack and the situation was better. A few packs later the cogging crept back to become a problem. When opening a lot of throttle and the system starts to chug the motor gets hot quite quickly.
So I switched in a longer 15A Himaxx 2025 5400Kv on metal 8T pinion (more noisy, ~25mph), which I didn't want to do because the extra Kv will be too fast for what I'm trying to do, low speed in a small space bashing. Well the power and speed is much better and the chugging cogging startup issue has gone. Frankly I was surprised that the cause was a deteriorating brushless motor, once moving at speed the motor seems fine, no obvious performance problems (for it's size).

So all we can be sure of is that cogging is due to either the ESC, motor, bad gearing or battery pack, not always obvious which one, so far I've had cogging issues from a faulty ESC and now a weak motor.
