Wendel,

Are you running the Perry Pump and tuned pipe? If so I started mine at 2 1/2 out on the top end and 2 turns on the low end. Once the engine is running on the top end correct I lower the throttle to around 1/8th. ( good high idel) Then start leaning in the low end till you hear a good firm 2 stroke sound. At this point you are going to be close. Idel the engine all the way down and let it run for about 15 seconds and then advance the throttle to full pretty fast but not just jamming the stick. If the engine transitions smooth then you have it right. If it sputters and then picks up you need to lean the low end needle about a 1/8th turn. Keep doing this till the engine goes to full throttle without any caughing. Then to make sure the engine is not lean in the mid range, bring the throttle up slowly till you get to half or a little above and let the engine run. If the engine is lean in the mid-range you will know pretty quick. I did this same tunning on my OS160 setup and it ran great. Once you set it you will never have to touch again (after the engine is broke in). If you are using the Mueller header and Aero Slave pipe follow the Jon Lowe Cookbook. Also use the coupler material from Rocket City Racing. You can put one of those couplers on it and forget it. Believe me I know and the hard way. I'll put the link on this post.

Hi all,

I pulled the tape on the twins last night, and went to bed early, slept over 10 hours - boy was I tired. Too, too many all nighters the last couple weeks. But the twins are DONE !!!! I've got a little clean-up work and hand buffing/polishing, but the paint work is complete and the planes will be delivered to the customer this weekend.

You all will be seeing these babies on the Masters flight line in D3 and the Nats this year !!!!

it feels great to be done with these birds !!!!

enjoy!

I painted the base white on my personal vf-3 a couple nights ago and I am ready to wet sand and prep for taping. I hope to have my personal plane done shortly as I am on a roll right now.

Also I have learned so much more regarding the "Zen and the Art of Airplane Finishing" - I promise to do a really detailed step-step thread on finishing these babies from raw wood to final clear coat.

cheers all !

HI All,

Finished and delivered the planes today.

Really happy how these turned out, the paint jobs including the fiberglass base added 6.25 oz to each plane all up. I was up to 2 am last night hand buffing these babies.

Once I catch up a little I post some details on these planes. I am also in the process of painting my personal vf3, it's in a nice white base coat ready for wetsanding and taping. Since I am on a roll I and aiming at getting it painted this week...

enjoy !

Dean

ps. Now to catch up on about a month of sleep.

One fantastic job there Dean. I wish I could get my paint to work that well. You know I'm getting lots of practice and sooner or later I'll get the hang of it. When Chris and I get his VF3 cleared I'll post some pics here on RCU.

Hi All,

Here are some pictures from our practice day today. Arch and Tara Stafford spent the weekend flying with us in Georgia and Alabama. Today we flew at our Alabama practice site about an hour from Atlanta. We had gusty and windy conditions but had a fun day. Here are a few pics.

Chris,

Wish I could be. Unfortunately I wont be in the country. Not to mention, i'd be 1000 miles away if I was. Also, unfortunately I don't have a plane.. Mike stole my plane back... actually just kidding. He has it, but wanted to touch up some stuff and do some tweaks he didnt have time to do last year before the NATS. I wont be back in the country until mid august, so no NATS for me this year.

Arch
