For sportsman you could get through it with that, but it would be marginal. If you can build very light. The plane is very draggy. It definitely needs a 1.60 or above for anything else. If you want to keep costs down you can fly it with an OS 1.60 also and be competitive for other classes.

I saw a lightly used YS 1.60 for sale, as well as a compatible pipe, on the pattern list recently. I would think that would work well. If you're not on that list maybe someone can find that info (I'm not at my home computer).

The Ultra Sport is MUCH less draggy than this plane. That is one of the reasons this plane performs so well. The 1.4 will fly it, but anything above Sportsman and it will be hurting. There is a difference in flying it, and flying it well.

Just my opinion after flying this plane for more than 2 years and putting more flights than anyone on this design. I have flown them with a 1.60DZ and have flown others with OS 1.60's on them. That is the minimum I would put on this plane,

Update time,...contest results.

I now have 12 flights on the plane and WOW,..what a great machine!!!!! No practice in about a month and 2 flights on it Thursday before the contest. I actually dialed it in fairly close after one flight Friday night and flew it again Saturady morning to check the changes. I won the first round and pulled a 998 in the second,....The plane and I were one of the topics of discussion throughout the weekend . I finially had the chance to showcase some of the skills and ability that was being supressed by flying used up old crap,...thanks a million times over Mike.

I love the plane and would like to find another one framed up, cmoore has one posted I see.

Best Regards,

Bill Holsten

Does anyone have a photo of the bottom of Mark Attwood's(I think that's the owner) model? Photo of the model below..

I love the colour scheme and would like to duplicate it but in bright orange instead of yellow.

Cheers
Jason.

Yep, that's Marks. The bottom is basically an arrow from the front of the plane back. I'm sure someone will have a picture though. Very pretty scheme.

Fuse is painted. Wings and stabs are film. I thought I had a picture of the bottom, but I can't find one.

Mark and I are really good friends. He is one of the designers of the Nemesis series of planes in the 90's. The 2 meter one was the Arch Nemesis..I actually flew one for the NATS he let me borrow years ago...was kind of cool..although, he did kidnap my stuff donkey dragon from Shrek 3 that I always carried around with my plane...

OUHOZER,

Rounds 3 through 6 were mine also, a really good competitor broke a header after the 2nd round. I used the other rounds to tweek on the plane and accept some coaching and advise from our USA Chief judge and NATS CD. I was working on fine tuning my presentation and flying different size sequences, preping for the NATS.

I really hate doing this but I am selling my VF3 Project. You can check out the link http://www.rcuniverse.com/market/item.cfm?itemID=529371

As I am sure you all know the VF3 is a great plane. I am a little in over my head, I think, with the glassing. It will take more time than I can dedicate to it to finish it right...Im limited on shop space and need to trim down on a project or two. If you know someone who is interested Id be happy to sell to them =) My price is a little negotiable.

Chris, you should think about just doing monokote and not worrying about the glass/paint.

You still have to do the cowl, chin and canopy in paint and clear coat. then the rest of the plane in monokote and have a sub 10 lb plane.

wish I had the money because that is a steal !!!!

Chris,

That thing looks so close to being done that it would b e a shame not to finish it like Dean suggests and fly it. If I had any money I'd buy it and save myself a ton of time.
