Got out last night and flew mine with a new OS 55AX. What a blast. Balistic power with this setup. Been running a Thunder Tiger 46 Pro which was really good but it's pretty much worn out now.

Test flew my Edge twice last night. A bit windy but everything went very well. I have a OS 70 four stroke on it. Plenty of power.
Took off nice and easy flew up to a safe altitude to trim it, but no trim was needed. Not one click!
I have the CG at the farthest foward position and I will need to move it back a bit as I fly this ship some more. Inverted flight needed some down to maintain altitude. I tried a bit of hovering and it is easy to do.
Knife edge is a hoot. While it was windy initial tests show little if any coupling of any kind.
This plane is a winner. I can't wait to fly it some more.

Hey John,
I am also installing an OS .70 on mine and I will like to know where did you located the receiver and the battery to get the CG at the forward position? Did you needed to add weight?

Airtech,
For my OS 70 Surpass II I had to put it as far back as it can go. I used a 1500 ma flat pack as far back as I could push it inside the wing. The pack is over kill for capacity but as weight was needed I figured what the heck.
For servos I am using Hitec HS225's . These are slightly smaller than a standard servo and weigh a hair less. With this set up I still needed to add some weight to the tail. Last night I re-balanced to 4.75" back from the LE. At this balance point I have added at most 3 ounces of lead.
If I were to build another one of these with a 70 I would move the servos back to reduce the amount of weight needed to balance. However with the small amount that has been added it is no big deal.

Be carefull when you widen the engine mounting beams and drill the holes as they are only so wide!

John,
Thanks for the information. I ended doing about the same thing you did. I used a 5 cell 1450mAh (6 volts) battery pack all the way back inside the rear fuselage hole. Since I used Hitec HS5245MG's and they are smaller and lighter than standard servos the tail moment came out too light. I needed to add 1 1/2 oz. in the tail to balance at 4.5".
The biggest problem was the need to sand and enlarge the fuse behind the engine in order to provide clearance for the pump outlets on the Ultimate.
By the way the O.S. .70 Ultimate was a perfect fit between the engine mounts. I though the Surpass .70 was the same identical crankcase dimension as the Ultimate, but obviously they are not.
One other question, if you don't mind. What size prop are you using? I have a 13X6 for break-in, but I think a 14X4 should be best for 3D.

OK guys. Need some advice. The local guys said to get the 2 stroker as I am a new pilot so I am going with the OS 55ax. I need to know what prop, servos, tools and all to put this thing together. Where did you guys actually decide on the CG. Let me know what is good for this setup. Any advice will be good. Thanks and appreciate it, ME

I don't actually fly a Katana, but I concur with the others, the OS55AX loves the APC 12x3.75 prop.. Especially with 15% nitro. Where in IL are you?

Well, I am impressed, this Edge is a blast!!!! Since Friday I have about 15 flights so far. I have spent most of the time trimming this bad boy to my likes and ability.
I broke-in the O.S. FS .70 Ultimate according to the instructions and after three tanks of very rich running it was idling good enough for flying. After the first flight I needed to adjust the idle mixture a lot richer (?) to improve idle and transition.
Since the instructions didn't mentioned anything about adding right engine thrust I flew a couple of flights without any and found out the .70 with a 13X6 prop produced too much torque, and the Edge wanted to turn left at anything over 1/4 throttle. I ended up adding two washers for about 1 1/2 to 2 degrees of right thrust. Since then only about 2 clicks of down elevator were the only adjustment needed. I cut down the elevator throw to 15 deegres , and the ailerons throw to 20 deegres. I am running 45% expo for ailerons, 65% expo for elevator and 20% expo for rudder in low rates, and 60% expo for ailerons, 70% expo for elevator and 0% expo for rudder at high rates. These are my personal settings because I am not more than a rookie at 3D and the edge is very responsive plane.
I had major steering problems while taxing and takeoffs from our blacktop runway with the supplied tail skid so I purchased a SIG 40 size steering tail wheel assy. at the LHS. The addition of the tail wheel assy. did not appreciably change the CG, in fact the plane requires just a tad of back pressure to maintain inverted flight. Knife edge flight required no mixing whatsoever, and at high rates will produce beautiful waterfalls, while harriers and elevators are rock solid. With the FS.70 it will hover at 1/3 throttle and landings are smooth and slow. My only complain so far is that the landing gear is so narrow that the least cross wind will tilt it and the downwind wingtip will hit the runway, and asphalt is worst than #60 sandpaper . I suppose installing wingtip skids will be the only solution to this problem, unless someone have a better solution.

Thanks skukreja, I now have the motor and prop. I still need the rest of the recipe though guys. Who better to ask then all you guys. Carry on with the cookin! For planes this is probably my last meal for a long time(LOL). Let me know. Thanks again. me PS skukreja, I am in Sterling. Have shopped a few times at Als'. Great place! Although my pocket book did not think so. Came home with a few things I did not need but what the heck.
