How many amps does the sonic charger require out of its power supply?

It charges at 10 amps, so you'll need at least that much. Might be nice to get a 15A power supply just to be safe.

I had a motorola 10 amp powersupply and I would get the error light come on. I then used a converted PC power supply and have no more issues.

I would suggest this power supply. I use it to power my charger for my A123's, and it works great! 17 amps on the +12vdc will give you plenty of juice, and it only costs $14 shipped. Then just cut and connect a few wires and add a resistor, and you're ready to go!

Good luck,
Brijar!!!

Hi Brijar!

Thanks for the tip on the power supply!! Since I'm not an EE, could you add some explanation regarding your comment " ... cut and connect a few wires and add a resistor .."?

Thanks,

Dave P.

Sure. All I really did was follow this PC Power Supply Conversion walkthrough, or one like it. I can explain what I did to this power supply in my own words, though:
1. Connected Orange wire to a Red wire
2. Connected Grey wire to a Black wire
3. Connected a Red wire to one end of one of these 10 watt 10 ohm resistors, and a Black wire to the other end
4. Securely attached resistor to case with zip ties and thermal compound
5. Made some way to connect 3 yellow wires to the positive wire of the charger input leads, and 3 black wires to the negative wire of the charger input leads
6. Attached 2 Christmas light bulbs to a Red wire and a Black wire (+5v line) and attached to top of case to tell when PS is on
7. Plugged extra PC power cord into power supply and wall, making sure PS was set to 115v and turned on

Good luck,
Brijar!!!
