OK after some more research, I have found out that the outer wing were the exact same as the P-51D So that makes that part very easy. The only mod to the wing will be the Gear and lenghting the Ailerons and make the center wing.

As for the fuse, It looks like the rudders are smaller on the P-82, possibley because of the counter rotating engines. So on the 51, maybe I can lenghten the back of the vert. stab. Then by putting the horizontal stab in the stock (P-82) location will move it back 3 to 4". Not scale but acceptable. then extend the rudder brace/fin a little and it should give a good sport scale representation of what we are trying to achieve.

I plan on counter rotating engines if I can find some that can be converted.

Now I just need to stop adding scale stuff to my Corsair and finish it up so I can start this project.

Man, anyone looking for a model of an F82 would be crazy to build one instead of pick that one up at that price...are you kiddin?
How could you build from step 1, 2 kits engineered into 1, plus the two engines, muffler, retracts and support, etc, for that price.
If you don't want to drive to get it, have Johnny Hernandes or someone in Fla. pick it up and pay them to prep and shipping. Just too nice of a plane to start from scratch on.

Plus the sucker is scale, and has a brilliant history.

If it ain't scale...it's crap!

For one thing it's too small, it has glow engines, second I didn't build it or do most of the work.

I'm not that anal about scale anyways.

So if it has glow or too small, it's crap!!

that my $0.02

Like much of the rest of the airplane, the F-82 outer wing panels are actually more like the P-51H than the P-51D. They use the same airfoils (which are different from earlier Mustangs) and neither has the leading edge extension at the fuselage that earlier Mustangs exhibited. Obviously the airfoils are no big deal but, IMHO, the leading edge extensions will make for a strange looking Twin Mustang. Just my .02 cents of course, good luck with it.

Chad you are right about the wings. But any ways, not to many people will notice.

To everybody:
I know the T/Fs aren't exactly scale, but the other day, I had guy that new very little about airplanes (his admission) walk into my shop and he saw my mustang sitting in the stand with the wings off and said "Cool, a Mustang" That's close enough for me. I just like'm big, well fairly big.

Adam and I are trying to make this work with as little modification as possible. I'm not a build from the ground up modeler, but I do like to kit bash and make changes to hone my skills so I can one day build the ultimate scale plane from a box of balsa. My Corsair has some mighty nice scale details added to it, not to make it perfect, but to make it look more real.

If anyone has any pics. of color schemes they would like to share please post them.

hi all, i have been reading your messages on the f82 twin mustang! i have been collecting info on the f82 for several years now so that i can build a 15ft wingspan version to fly at public showes here in the u.k.
through adds in mags like l.m.a. and hours of searching on the internet i have lots of information and plans on the f82e and g. i have recently found a very scale plan and will probably use this as my starting point. if anyone has any questions i will be glad to help (if i can!) and i am always on the lookout for more pictures.

Hi Guys,
I'm the lucky slob that got the F-82G that Art Johnson built and competed with at Top Gun -4-times.
Too small? It is 103" W.S. and has a brand new pair of O.S. 1.60's on it with on board glow.
I flew to FLA and rented a small SUV to bring it home to Texas in. Came complete with a video of Col. Art Johnson flying it at numerous venues!
Don't know who's handing out info on F-82's, but there are NO common parts as far as wing panels or fuselages goes.
The outer panels dont have the "crank" in the inboard leading edge that was necessary on the mustang to house the main gear.
Fuses are a LOT longer, canopies are longer/larger, vertical stabs are bigger, etc.......
There are a few good resources on them, but until you go check out on of the full-scale ones (I've seen the ones at Wright Pat -"Betty Jo" and Kelly AFB - FQ-262 - in San Antonio) you can't really get how different they are than a P-51.
I have most of the books that have ever been published, and (I think) all of the plastic models of the P/F-82.
I got the last set of plans and canopies that Col. Art ever sold, too!

If you are gonna build one correctly, you might as well start with either his plans (old school -BTW) or just do a new set of plans off of one of the Japanese 3-views that are made for high end scale modelling.

Hope this helps!

Regards,
F82FAN

hi f82 fan, i am going to build an f82g with 4meter wing span! i have scaled up the plans that i have mentioned, but i am struggling for a supplier for retracts here in the u.k. i will be using 2x ZG62cc petrol engines and i am hoping for a all up weight of 60lbs (it will have to be registered with the C.A.A. in the u.k. through the L.M.A.) i am looking for more information on the f82g, mid night sinner from 4th aws in okinowa. i have a basic picture and good picture of the fightin fuugines logo on the tail, but i need a good picture of the nose art (the knacked lady) on the front. can anyone help?
