That is cool as heck!

CP, I recently finished the top secret CC project and a boost glider. On the bench today is a 1/2 quickie for the reedie race.

FW, beautiful work! In the rear view, the model looks "doable", in the forward view, the model looks "impossible"

Vic, good to hear that you're pecking away at your earlier commitments. Just think now, at this rate you'll be caught up enough with all the other projects by your 89th birthday to tackle this one

Looks awesome! I would be too busy picking it up and admiring it to get any work done.

HAHA... Ive raised it over my head making engine noises a few times already...

I just ordered the second engine for it. I couldnt find any locally after calling most of the shops in my area. I noticed that they are listed as discontinued on the Tower website too. I found some somwhere else online and snatched one up before it's too late. I think the two engines weigh as much as the airframe or more...haha.

More pictures...I need to finish hinging the rear control surfaces and make the three bottom hatches. Then prep for covering. Ive decided to install fixed gear for the first few flights. I'm using 1/8'' wire and light weight wheels to keep the weight down. The gear will also help with orientation in the air too.

Thanks guys...I cant wait to start covering it. Its going to look really tough once Ive got the black covering on it. Im sort of sweating my engine choice though. I may have trouble getting another engine to match the one Ive got already. Keep getting it backordered on me. I found it at a place called thundertiger4you online and put in a order. It seemed to o though but that was on wednesday and it looks like they havent charged me for it yet and I havent gotten any sort of shipment notification. I noticed that OS is also dropping their bushing .25 too (.25 LA) since it's showing as being discontinued on the tower site. I may have to buy two engines now if I can match mine. The next closest be would be possibly the GMS .25. I looked at the OS .25 FX but it is about $30 more per motor over the GMS engine ($55 vs $85). Anyone know anything about these motors? Also, I have a pair of TT pro .36's (Ive got two already already mounted in aircraft) would almost fit too but Im worried that might be too much power for such a small model... Ive got one mounted in my Avistar 40 and it pulls it around easily weighing 5lbs! Also, a .36 will suck down that 4oz tank I've installed in each nacelle in no time.

The .25 FX are great...GREAT little engines. You will not be disappointed, they are worth the extra. My humble opinion on GMS is this.
They come from the same abyss that gave us Meccoa, who sold me two of the worst things I have bought in the RC world to date. From what I have read here in RCU concerning GMS they have been plagued by leaky carbs, idle, and transition issues.
My FX purrs like a kitten at idle and barks up to 16,5 with an 8X6 with no fuss.

My opinions and experience.

I got a lot done last night. I finished the fixed gear, all pushrods and control surfaces. All I need now is to finish making the hatches and then the whole thing gets hit by sandpaper!

If you have a pair of reliable, broken-in TT-36 engines..... use them. Good to have engines with a history behind them.

You can always rig the throttles to 80% power --- will save fuel so the fuel burn will be about the same as an OS25, and if you get crafty (and use a helicopter pitch/throttle mix) you can dial in the throttle curve and rpm for each engine seperately.

Plus you can use the throttle hold feature to start one, idle it (throttle hold, on throttle ch) and then start the other engine (run on pitch ch)

Thanks for the tip Bob. Im going to have to look into the mix you described...

Ive got a second gp .25 in the mail now... Thanks Mark for helping me find one!! Radical R/C had one for only $51. They had great prices on other stuff so I bookmarked that page..

I broke out the digital scale and weighed the model with all the gear installed. I added the weight of the missing engine and then calculated the weight to be about 4lbs total. That should give me a wingloading of about 16oz/sq ft. By my estimations (9x5 prop turning at 12,500rpms), I should get just over 3lbs of thrust from each engine which should get it off the ground easily. There isnt a lot of frontal area on the thing so it should be fast .

WOW...my buddy down over in the mailroom here at work brought over a little package. It was the engine I ordered on tuesday! These folks dont fool around. The engine got here faster than it took the cc charge to post to my account! Nice folks too... Now I can bolt it on and my Blackbird so it wont look like its missing a "fang".

I spent some time yesterday learning about SPADS. Im going to build a small one to make breaking in the .25's more fun...

FW, I've got to say it again........in the forward view it looks like the plane is all fuselage. In the view looking to the front, [fron the rear] the plane looks flyable. I think using LG is a wise choice, I can not picture this plane belly landing without digging a rut.

It looks awsome FW!
Quick Q, Other than to keep the exhaust stacks on the bottom of the wing is there a reason to have both engines rotated the same way? It would seem to throw the lateral CG off in that direction? Not picking, cause you are way beyond anything I have going right now.

You are the man to be sure.

thats a good question... U wanted to dump the exhaust under the wing. I will take a look at the model carefully and spend some time balancing it laterally. As far as the landing gear goes, it will probably stay on the model. The idea of belly anding the thing just seems too risky even in tall grass. That long lose can easily dig in and snap the model in two... I did epoxy two 10'' section of carbon tubingto the fuse to stiffen up the area where the front of the delta wing meets the forward fuse section...One more light sanding and the model will be ready to cover.

I have periodically looked at this thread and I must say that is one nice looking model. Hope it flies half as well as she looks.

I hope so too!

I got a good bit done this weekend since our runway was under water all weekend . I balanced the model out to where I figure the CG being and then got out the scale. The model will weight 4.5lbs which will put the wingloading right around 18.3oz per square foot. I can carry 8oz of fuel total so I should be right around 5lbs at take off. My engines should put out a total static thrust os about 6lbs so I shouldnt need too much runway to get off the ground. The model chould actually be lighter since I over built the thing thinking I would be belly landing the thing...

Ive already started covering the model with flat black Monokote (Luckily I had some left over from my U-2 project ). I want to finish the model before the end of next week if possible. I'll post some more pics tonite or tomorrow of the model. Thanks for everyones help, comments and suggestions so far!
